Introduction:
As we should all know it is so easy to get caught up in the trials and tribulations of what is everyday life. For sadly in this hectic world there is so much more for us to worry about.
Believe it or not, I was actually asked whilst I was in Europe a good number of years ago, “what benefit will I receive from reading the Torah”. Obviously I was rather stunned, however I spent time with the young man concerned and explained how by “reading it be assured it will greatly improve your life”, and covered other aspects. That same young man to this day continues to correspond with me, and he has become a wonderfully good and a very faithful Yid ... “thank you אֱלֹהִים- יָהוָה- (the LORD God)”.
I pray that the above has already given you some guidance, but believe me, there is so much more!
Why should we study the Torah?
Our Hebraic tradition does encourage us to engage in frequent Torah study, and we should do this in a genuine thought-provoking way. Many will not realise this, but the wonderful mitzvah of studying our blessed Torah will give us genuine rewards.
There are two reasons for this. First, it is impossible for us as ‘Hebrews’ to properly observe the commandments and live a life of faith and morality without Torah knowledge. Second, since Torah study engages a person’s noblest aspects, using our mind and the soul, it will lift you up, as well your life will be so much more useful in countless ways!
Let us commence by reading the following verses:
1... Yahushua - Joshua 1:8. (JPS) - Hebrew, then English.
לֹא-יָמוּשׁ
סֵפֶר
הַתּוֹרָה
הַזֶּה מִפִּיךָ,
וְהָגִיתָ
בּוֹ יוֹמָם
וָלַיְלָה,
לְמַעַן
תִּשְׁמֹר
לַעֲשׂוֹת,
כְּכָל-הַכָּתוּב
בּוֹ:
כִּי-אָז
תַּצְלִיחַ
אֶת-דְּרָכֶךָ,
וְאָז
תַּשְׂכִּיל
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success”.
Devarim
- Deuteronomy 17:19, Hebrew, then Transliteration and English.
“Ve’ha’yeta Imo Ve’kara Vo Kol Ye’mei Cha’yav, Lema’an Yil’mad Li’yir’ah et YaHVaH Elohav, Lish’mor et-Kol Div’rei Ha’torah Ha’zot Ve’et Ha’chu’kim Ha’ele La’a’so’tam”.
“And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו (the LORD his God), to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them”.
Devarim - Deuteronomy 31:11-12, English only.
“When all Israel comes to appear before the יָהוָה
אֱלֹהֶיךָ(the LORD your God) … you
shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.”
Yeshayahu - Isaiah 34:16, English only.
“Seek ye out of the book of יָהוָה (the
LORD), and read…”
More about studying the Torah:
As we should all know the Torah is also known as the Five Books of Moshe - Moses, and it is the central and most important text of our beloved faith. It contains the teachings and mitzvoth that אֱלֹהִים (God), blessed be He, revealed to Moshe on Mount Horeb more than 3,000 years ago. For us Hebrews, the study of the Torah is a lifelong pursuit. It is not simply a book to be read from cover to cover and then put on a shelf. The Torah is living document, and it is meant to be studied and re-studied throughout our lives. Of course, there are different ways to study the Torah. Some will study by themselves, while others learn in a more formal setting such as at a Yeshiva (Jewish religious school). Some study the Torah in Hebrew, while others read it in translation. But the truth is, no matter how it is studied, the Torah is a source of wisdom and great inspiration for Jews of all ages. It is a guide that teaches us how to live a meaningful and ethical life, and yes, it provides comfort and hope in times of trouble!
Of course we are told to read it regularly:
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from
your mouth”. Yahushua - Joshua 1:8.
The above verse is often cited in discussions about the importance of continual engagement with Torah, not just reading, but speaking, meditating, and better still, living it!
Do you feel now that you may read so much more and gain a better understanding of His blessed Word? I pray you do, for it is a honour to daily spend some time reading the blessed Torah!
In conclusion:
Whether you are navigating relationships, or choosing a new career path, struggling with health, or even mental health, or possibly you are figuring out what kind of Hebrew you really want to be? Believe me, the Torah always has something for you. It might not give you clear answers, but it always offers a deep question, a provides a new perspective, and what I call a spark of sacred meaning.

In Conclusion, a Question to Deepen the
Conversation:
Which part of this Tanach guide or a line
within it has touched you the most? And how do you feel about
spending more time on your Tanakh study time? I pray that you are you doing
well as a faithful Jew, and אֱלֹהִים - Elohim willing you are upholding as many of our
blessed Mitzvoth’s?
I am well aware that the modern world sadly
contains far too many deviations as well as problems that tends to get in the way. More than that, sadly there are all sorts of
enticements, which is able to throw so many off track. Thus, if there are various struggles that may be taking place in your
life at this or any time, I am well aware that it can have sad and cruel
effects upon your life? Remember this, pray for peace, and then work
on keeping as calm as possible and learn to improve your life in אֱלֹהִים. This site is also for those
who need to return to our wonderful faith, thus work on your faith and pray and
always seek אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s
guidance, blessed be He!
Remember what אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, blessed be He, said
“Return unto Me, and I will return
unto you, saith צְבָאוֹת- יָהוָה-
the LORD of hosts”. Mal’a’chi 3:7. MEC).
אֲנִי יָהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם,
בְּחֻקּוֹתַי
לֵכוּ;
וְאֶת-מִשְׁפָּטַי
שִׁמְרוּ,
וַעֲשׂוּ
אוֹתָם
וְאֶת-שַׁבְּתוֹתַי,
קַדֵּשׁוּ;
וְהָיוּ
לְאוֹת,
בֵּינִי
וּבֵינֵיכֶם-לָדַעַת,
כִּי אֲנִי יָהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם
“I am אֱלֹהֵיכֶם יָהוָה (the LORD your God); walk in My statutes,
and keep Mine ordinances, and do them; and hallow My Sabbaths, and they shall
be a sign between Me and you, that ye may know that I am אֱלֹהֵיכֶם יָהוָה”. Yechezkel - Ezekiel
20:19-20. (JPS).
