Remember the following two truth’s
from our beloved Scriptures!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I
command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep
the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם (the LORD your Eloleichem) which I command
you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2.
“This is My Name FOREVER, and this is My
Memorial to ALL Generations”. Shemot - Exodus 3:15. (JPS).

Bereshit - Genesis
32:4 to 36:43..
All verses are from
(JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).
With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.
Introduction:
What is the key to accepting blessings which we seem to have in our lives without
becoming complacent, or for that matter arrogant, as sadly we humans tend to
sometimes be inclined to be so?
This study commences in Bereshit - Genesis chapter 32:4.
In this study, Ya’aqov - Jacob leaves the home of his
father-in-law ‘Lavan’ and he prepares to encounter his twin brother Esav -
Esau, he turns to אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, in prayer. But before asking to be
saved from harm, he then declares ...
“I am not worthy of all the mercies, and of all the truth,
which Thou hast shown unto Thy servant.” Chapter 32:11. (JPS-1917
version).
Ya’aqov - Jacob feared that the abundance he had received in
Haran, both material wealth and a growing family, had made him “small,” less
worthy of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim’s miraculous protection.
However, Jacob’s “smallness” was certainly not ‘insecurity’ it was
‘spiritual sensitivity’. He understood that every blessing is an act of Divine
chessed - kindness, a loving embrace meant to draw a person closer
to אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ
שֵׁם
קָדוֹשׁוֹ – ‘Baruch
Shem Kadosho’ – ‘Blessed be His Holy Name’.
The more Ya’aqov - Jacob received, the more he
acutely felt that closeness. Rather than inflating his ego, abundance humbled him.
It raised his expectations of himself, urging him to ‘’refine’ and ‘elevate his
service of the Almighty’.
This is the secret: blessings are
meant to deepen ‘humility’, not diminish it. They are reminders that יְהוָה - the LORD is near, not trophies of personal
achievement. The more we sense His closeness, the more ‘grateful’, ‘refined’,
and ‘responsible’ we tend to become.
All we can pray for is that we may all be blessed with abundant ‘spiritual
goodness’ and ‘health’, and ‘happiness’. Also may we choose the courage that
unites us, and the humility that brings us שָׁלוֹם - Shalom - Peace in our lives!

Conclusion, a Question to Deepen the Conversation:
Which part of the Tanakh study, or possibly a particular line or statement within it has touched you the most? And how do you feel about spending more time studying our beloved Tanakh? I pray that you are doing well as a faithful Hebrew, and אֱלֹהִים - Elohim willing you are upholding as many of our blessed Mitzvoth’s?
Dear reader, please remember this, pray for peace and solitude in your life, and then work on keeping as calm as possible and learn to improve your life, for אֱלֹהִים - בָּרוּךְ אֱלֹהִים - Bless Elohim, He is always there and ready to help and guide you!
