Four Tanakh Revelations

Remembering the following four truth’s..

The four Tanakh Covenant revelations:

Our beloved Tanakh unfolds four decisive covenantal revelations that has shaped Israel’s history and hope, these being the; ‘Noahic’, ‘Abrahamic’, ‘Mosaic’ and the ‘Davidic’ covenants.

First, is the Noahic covenant, which promises that אֱלֹהִים (God) will never again destroy all flesh by a flood, and establishes אֱלֹהִים (God’s) enduring pledge to creation. (Bereshit - Genesis 9:11).

Second, is the Avrahamic call and he is summoned Avram to leave his homeland and go to his promised land, descendants, a great name, reciprocal blessing and curse, and that through him all the families of the earth shall be blessed (Bereshit - Genesis 12:1-3).

Third, at Sinai the Mosaic covenant summons Israel to obedience: if they hearken and keep the covenant they will be אֱלֹהִים (God’s) treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, with law and communal obligations defining their life (Shemot - Exodus. 19:5-6).

Fourth, the Davidic promise secures a dynastic house and an enduring throne, frames a father-son relation between אֱלֹהִים and the king, and grounds royal hope in a perpetuated kingship (2 Shmuel - 2 Samuel. 7:13-16).

Let us look at all the relevant verses:

1... Noahic: Bereshit - Genesis 9:11.

“And I will establish My covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of the flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth”.

2... Avahamic: Bereshit - Genesis 12:1-3.

“Now the LORD said unto Abram: ‘Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto the land that I will show thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing. And I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse; and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed’”.

3... Mosaic: Shemot - Exodus 19: 5-6.

“Now therefore, if ye will hearken unto My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be Mine own treasure from among all peoples; for all the earth is Mine; and ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel’”.

4... Davidic: 2 Shmuel - 2 Samuel 7: 13-16.

“He shall build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be to him for a father, and he shall be to Me for a son; if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; but My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee; thy throne shall be established for ever.' And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee; thy throne shall be established for ever’”

Recalling the message from above:

As we have seen, the Tanakh unfolded four decisive covenantal revelations that shape Israel’s history and hope.

First: The Noahic covenant promised that אֱלֹהִים will never again destroy all flesh by a flood, and establishes אֱלֹהִים (God’s) enduring pledge to creation (Gen. 9:11).

Second: The Abrahamic call and promise summon Abram to leave his homeland and promise land, descendants, a great name, reciprocal blessing and curse, and that through him all the families of the earth shall be blessed (Gen. 12:1-3).

Third: At Mt. Horeb the Mosaic covenant summons Israel to obedience: if they hearken and keep the covenant they will be אֱלֹהִים (God’s) treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, with law and communal obligations defining their life (Exod. 19:5-6).

Fourth, the Davidic promise secures a dynastic house and an enduring throne, frames an amazing relationship with אֱלֹהִים and the king, and grounds Royal hope in a perpetuated kingship (2 Sam. 7:13-16).

In Conclusion, a Question to Deepen the Conversation:

Which part of the Tanakh study, or possibly a particular line or statement within it has touched you the most? And how do you feel about spending more time studying our beloved Tanakh? I pray that you are doing well as a faithful Hebrew, and אֱלֹהִים - Elohim willing you are upholding as many of our blessed Mitzvoth’s?

I am well aware that the modern world sadly contains far too many deviations as well as problems that seem to get in the way of our Hebrew lifestyle. Yet worse than that, these days there are far too many enticements, which can so easily throw many off track, and I know that has happened far too much. Thus, if there are struggles that are taking place in your life, be it at this or at any time, I am well aware that sadly it can often have a terrible and a cruel effect upon your life?
