Remember the following two truth’s from our beloved
Scriptures!
“Ye
shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם (the LORD your Eloleichem) which I
command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2.

Introduction:
Ezekiel
37:1-14 presents the prophet’s vision of the valley of dry bones, being a
powerful prophetic enactment of national restoration. The scene moves from
desolation to life, portraying אֱלֹהִים
- Elohim’s promise to revive Israel by His Spirit and to reunite the scattered
Hebrews in our land. This passage is both a dramatic oracle and a theological
statement about Divine ‘sovereignty’, ‘breath (ruach), and ‘covenantal
renewal’.
Let us now read Yechezkel - Ezekiel, Chapter 37, verses 1 to 14: (JPS-1917 version):
1. “The
hand of יְהוָה
- the LORD was upon me, and יְהוָה carried me out in a
spirit, and set me down in the midst of the valley, and it was full of bones;
2. and He caused me to pass by them round about, and, behold,
there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.
3. And He
said unto me: ‘Son of man, can these bones live?' And I answered: 'O אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה
– LORD Elohim, Thou knowest’.
4. Then He
said unto me: ‘Prophesy over these bones, and say unto them: O ye dry bones,
hear the word of יְהוָה:
5. Thus
saith אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה
- the LORD Elohim unto these bones: Behold, I will
cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.
6. And I
will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with
skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am יְהוָה’.
7. So I
prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and
behold a commotion, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.
8. And I
beheld, and, lo, there were sinews upon them, and flesh came up, and skin
covered them above; but there was no breath in them.
9. Then
said He unto me: ‘Prophesy unto the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to
the breath: Thus saith אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה
- the LORD Elohim: Come from the four winds, O breath,
and breathe upon these slain, that they may live’.
10. So I
prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived,
and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great host.
11. Then
He said unto me: ‘Son of man, these bones are the
whole house of Israel; behold, they say: Our bones are dried up, and our hope
is lost; we are clean cut off.
12. Therefore
prophesy, and say unto them: Thus saith אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה: Behold, I will open your
graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, O My
people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.
13. And ye
shall know that I am יְהוָה, when I have opened your
graves, and caused you to come up out of your graves, O My
people.
14. And I
will put My spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I
will place you in your own land; and ye shall know that I יְהוָה
- the LORD have spoken, and performed it, saith יְהוָה - the LORD’”.

Let us now look at the “word for word” (principal terms and phrases):
יָד־יְהוָה הָיְתָה עָלַי - the hand of יְהוָה - the LORD was upon me (Divine compulsion / commission).
בְּרוּחַ יְהוָה - in a spirit of יְהוָה (ruach: wind/breath/spirit; the agent of life).
בִּקְעָה מְלֵאָה עֲצָמוֹת - valley full of bones (image of utter desolation).
הֲתִחְיֶינָה הָעֲצָמוֹת - Can these bones live? (rhetorical question prompting faith).
נְבָא עַל־הָעֲצָמֽוֹת - Prophesy over the bones (word effects reality).
אֶת־הָרוּחַ אֶתֵּן בָּכֶם - I will put breath in you (Divine ruach as life-giving).
קְבוּרֹתֵיכֶם אֶפְתַּח - I will open your graves (resurrectional and national restoration).
נָדַעְתֶּם כִּי־אֲנִי יְהוָה - ye shall know that I am יְהוָה - the LORD (purpose: recognition of God’s action).
Conclusion:
Ezekiel
37:1-14 moves from a stark vision of death to a promise of life: אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s Word and Spirit restores what human hope had abandoned, and
the ultimate aim is that Israel, and all who witness, will recognize יְהוָה
- the LORD as the source of all life and restoration. The passage blends
prophetic drama with theological assurance: where אֱלֹהִים
acts, the dead may live again.
