Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

However, sadly both the later priests as well as our rabbis of long ago and of today have, and are shamefully disobeying this command of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ – ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

“A Covenant Forever”

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Just before the study, I would like to commence with one more important quote from the book of Yahushua - Joshua Ch 1:7-8. (JPS-1917).

Be strong and courageous. Be careful to obey the entire Torah My servant Moshe has given you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Torah depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Introduction:

First of all, this is a very important study, and I am sorry it is one of my longer studies than usual. However what it contains is very interesting to say the least!

Due to so many non Hebrew people having told me, ‘Rabbi is it not sad that the ten of the Twelve Tribes of Israel were lost, so long ago?” However, I would set them right about that question! For, this is the reason I decided to write about that question, and it is the theme of this important study, as I am sure that by the time we reach the end we will have gained a great deal from the wonderful Word of יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים - the LORD Elohim (God), ברוך שמו לעולם - “Baruch Shmo Le’olam” - “Blessed be His Name forever!” Possibly you have already learned something regarding this subject, however in this study, you will come to know things you may not have ever heard!

I have been aware of the full truth of this matter since 1973! For I a sure that you may not have heard details of what I will provide in this study, then obviously you may ask, how come you know this, whilst others have not found this? Believe me, I am certainly no better than anyone else, for I feel far from being superior, but it is all due to having a “Hebraic” mind and desiring to search out all the facts and words from the Ivrit – Hebrew, from our beloved Tanakh, as well as having been an archaeologist, and had close contact with the “Shrine of the Book”, the “Hebrew Museums” in Yisroel and various parts of the world, as well as the “London Museum”, who actually honoured me! I feel that I have been blessed by אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, blessed be He, having an understanding of ancient Paleo and Ivit - Hebrew. Believe me it takes a great deal of prayer, and lovingly studying our beloved Tanakh! I wanted you to understand this, as we go on with this study for it is a vital link to understanding of the precious Word of Elohim,  ברָך אֱלֹהִים, blessed be Elohim!

As we undertake this study, we should understand that the Tanakh is packed with treasures, and all it takes is time to read it, and also to look at the roots of some of the words and comprehending just what it really is saying!

Now here is one secret of understanding our Tanakh better. And I have placed the secret below, for it is vital to take note of the following information:

There are three very clear levels of learning & understanding of the Tanakh as given by our אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, for when we read and study the Tanakh, we should keep the following three points always in mind.

These three points or steps provide a most valuable guide and it will certainly provide you with guidance and they will illuminate the sheer beauty and the fullness that can be found in אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s most Sanctified Word!

The three levels of learning & understanding of the blessed Word of יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים - the LORD Elohim:

When we read and study the blessed Scriptures, the Word of יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים and we should keep the following three steps always in mind for they are a valuable guide and it will certainly provide us with guidance and illuminate the sheer beauty and the fullness of אֱלֹהִים – Elohim’s blessed Word!

I do believe that these three points are most relevant to our understanding of ...

1… When was the Word given to Israel?

2… Who was יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים - the LORD Elohim, speaking to?

3… How was His Word understood by בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל - the “Children of Israelat that time it was given?

Below are the simple answers:

1... Obviously, it commenced late whilst we were in Mitzrayim, after Moshe had returned 40 years after he had left Egypt.

2... To Moshe at Mount Horeb (Known as אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s Mountain) and then whilst they were in the wilderness for 40 years.

3... Very differently compared what we read today, but for those who had lived in Egypt for so long, it was the suitable language for their time and according the conditions they had been living in.

I stress once again, I do believe that these three points are most relevant to our understanding of what the Almighty was saying at the time it was given and they understood what it meant to them then, yet this very day the full truth is still available. Even though, the language and fonts have changed considerably. Yet still, the past still has great meaning today as we learn from it!

However, there is something that many today do not understand, that at the time the numerical system for it ended at just 1,000, and it is very relevant to this very day, when we read certain details in the Torah.

But we also should learn the following;

1Never take the Torah/Tanakh out of its context - and ...

2We cannot read someone else’s letter and just assume that it solely applies to us in today’s language and in what it could mean today. The point is, reading with today’s ideology and in a modern language rather than ancient original form of Ivrit, thus we should ask how it was understood at THE TIME it was given, thus with the knowledge and understanding they understood it clearly way back then. Thus they may well have had a completely different understanding what it meant, especially when numbers were part of something they were told. But between the ‘Sopherim’, ‘priests and rabbis’ prior to the destruction of the Temple, they had different ideologies and, to say the least a very different idea’s, yet they simply decided to go against אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s strict commandments! Such as ...

He hath remembered His COVENANT FOREVER, the Word which He COMMANDED to a THOUSAND GENERATIONS.” Tehillim – Psalms: 105:8. (JPS).

*“This is My Name FOREVER, and this is My MEMORIAL unto ALL GENERATIONS.” Shemot - Exodus 3:15. (JPS).

Obviously the above two verses should have been very clear to those eve though they were assumingly not to smart, and I do mean those ‘Soperim, ‘priests’, and ‘rabbis’ at that time. The question we should ask is, why were they so far off the mark knowing the will and the Commandments of our beloved אֱלֹהִים, blessed be He, as He was extremely precise with His teachings and His words!

However let us now turn to Tehillim - Psalm 105:7-10 for I believe within these four verses you will discover an interesting dilemma. There are some who have come to me over the years and have asked “Rabbi is there not a contradiction in this Tehillim?”

Let me tell you this truth, there is never a single contradiction in the Tanakh of יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים, blessed be His Sanctified Name. The only contradiction is always with those who do not comprehend, or check what was actually said, and understand why, and when! As history has proven man has so frequently caused confusion because they refused to look back when it was written, and how it was understood at that time! This so-called problem is very easily solved; however we must look at the original Ivrit - Hebrew for clarification! Thus let us now look at this Tehillim and see what precious gem it will provide us.

Tehillim - Psalm 105:7-10. (JPS).

This Tehillim will be shown in Ivrit - Hebrew, next a Transliteration, followed in English:

Transliteration:

7...  Hu YaHVaH Eloheinu; b’chol ha’aretz mish’patav.

8...  Zachar le’olam brito; davar tzi’vah le’elef dor.

9...  Asher karat et’Avraham; u’shevu'ato le’Yitz’chak.

10.. Vaya’amideha le’Ya’akov le’chok; le’Yisra’el brit olam.

Translation:

7...  “He is יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ - the LORD Elo’hei’nu, His judgments are in all the earth.

8...  He hath remembered His covenant FOREVER, the word which He COMMANDED to a thousand generations;

9...  The covenant which He made with Avraham - Abraham, and His oath unto Yitzchak - Isaac;

10.. And He established it unto Ya’aqov - Jacob for a statute, to Yisroel - Israel for an everlasting covenant.” Tehillim - Psalm 105:7-10 (JPS).

Let us return to verse 8:

He (יְהוָהremembers His COVENANT FOREVER, the Word He commanded, for a THOUSAND GENERATIONS”.

I have had some tell me; But, that is a Tehillim - Psalm, not the Torah? The truth is that this verse is very similar to one in the Torah”!

Thus, let us look at Shemot - Exodus 3:15(JPS).

This is My Name FOREVER, and this is My Memorial to ALL Generations”.

You will note that two special words are used; forever and everlasting in verse 10 and obviously even in our understanding these words should mean exactly what they say!

However, this has not been the case according to many rabbis, for they can mostly only see a problem in these verses!

In Hebrew both the words “forever” and “everlasting” are the exact same Hebrew word, being consistent with “Olam” and it also translates as “eternity,” “eternal,” “universe,” “without end.” And there is much more, but I am sure that you get the picture!

However, there is one point in these verses that most rabbis just simply cannot grasp, and thus it has been troublesome with the balance of these verses, thus I have been asked; “But rabbi, why does it state in the second part of verse 8 that it is only “for a thousand generations, does this not mean that there is an obvious time limit?”

Who would ever ask this is really a not too smart or it even being a very clever question! However, truth is, I am always delighted when I am asked, for it gives me the opportunity to explain the sheer beauty in these verses. But let me just quickly go back to the three points I have already mentioned.

1… When was the Word given to Israel?

2… Who was יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים, blessed be His Sanctified Name speaking to?

3… How was His Word understood by Israelites at the time it was spoken/given?

Therefore, we need to remember that אֱלֹהִים, blessed be He, was speaking to B’nai Yisroel through the Psalmist and the people at the time of hearing had a certain understanding that was obviously very different to our way of thinking both in the past and today. I mean, if you would transport yourself back to London in the 1400’s you would hardly understand a word of the English they were speaking at that time, for the language has changed so greatly. Even those, who have never been, and would now go to a traditional Shakespeare play today, will have problems in understanding it, proving that language and understanding has changed to current English.

Of course the children of Israel were overwhelmed by the word and statement “Olam” which to them meant “His covenant” would be “eternal” never ending, just like the universe! And let us be honest, even with all the technology available to us with all the exploration of outer space and the depths of the oceans, etc, no one can still measure or comprehend eternity!

It was for that very reason that ָיְהוָה אֱלֹהִיםblessed be His Sanctified Name, gave Israel an insight to what eternity could possibly be like for obviously Israel had no comprehension of the immensity of it, thus the Psalmist said “the Word He commanded, for a thousand generations.” You may think. “Well that does not say much about it being eternal”. I am sorry for anyone who thinks this, for you would be very wrong, for remember we are speaking about those ancient times!

But, I have another piece in this remarkable puzzle and that is not just regarding Hebraic time that we need to understand, BUT, we should all know that the Hebrew Alphabet are simply not just letters, for it is also the Hebrew Numerical system. I am sure you will know the following, but for those who may not, let me explain. For example A (Aleph) = 1, and B (Beth) = 2, and so it goes on. Thus, I would like to place before you details regarding the duration that is quoted (a thousand generations”, which I pray you will find very interesting.

The Hebrew counting System at the time of the delivery:

At that time the highest numerical denominator in the Hebrew alphabet was 1,000. Thus it was just like Elohim was saying to His people Israel, “My Covenant will be for you as far as you can possibly count,” and one thousand for Israel was like saying as far as the stars of heaven and more, it was like saying many millions, billions, way beyond their comprehension. Considering Elohim did not only say 1,000 years, but then He even multiplied it when He said “a thousand generations” and we know from the word “a thousand generations”, we need to remember that one generation at that time was considered as being 40 years! And thus, what Elohim was saying to Israel here was this, My Covenant will be for you not just as far as you can possibly count, but it is multiplied by a thousand generations. Thus we are speaking of almost countless of years. Can you just imagine it, this was like saying forever to the then dessert people, and it frankly far beyond our comprehension even to this day! Thus Elohim was giving Yisroel an insight, a picture of what eternity could possibly be like, and He did this by using the ultimate picture by using what they had within their own language and their numerical system that proved a scene of eternity!

Therefore, Shemot - Exodus 3:15, and Tehillim - Psalm 105:8 clearly proves that for example the Torah Mitzvah’s and the Ten Commandments are FOREVER!

Remember, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, blessed be He, spoke to His people in their understanding for that time!
