Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of אֱלֹהֵיכֶם יְהוָה - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

“Tehillim - Psalm 103”

Verses 1 to 7 - A Special edition.

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Although I have already covered this Tehillim in the Psalms section, however this is a rather special edition of looking at its first seven verses, and I pray because of the beauty therein, it will touch your life for the better!

Introduction:

Tehillim - Psalm 103:1-7 is wonderful song of ‘awakening’ and ‘deep gratitude’. It focuses on praising אֱלֹהִים - Elohim with the whole self, remembering ‘Divine benefits’, and recognizing אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s justice and revelation to Moses. This Psalm of David was written to ‘stir the inner self’ into active ‘thankfulness’. It calls upon every part of the soul and body to praise אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s Holy Name. Memory vs. Forgetfulness: The text warns us not to forget the daily kindnesses we receive.

Tehillim - Psalm 103:

This Psalm will be shown first in Hebrew, followed by its Translation!

1. “(A Psalm) of David. Bless יְהוָה - the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name”.

2. “Bless יְהוָה - the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits”.

3. “Who forgiveth all thine iniquity; who healeth all thy diseases”.

4. “Who redeemeth thy life from the pit; who encompasseth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies”.

5. “Who satisfieth thine old age with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle”.

6.יְהוָה - the LORD executeth righteousness, and acts of justice for all that are oppressed”.

Let us now look at its Commentary:

Talking to Yourself: David commands his own soul. When life is hard, we must remind our hearts to wake up and praise our beloved אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim!

Listing the Gifts: אֱלֹהִים - Elohim ‘forgives wrong acts’, ‘heals sickness’, and pulls us back from the ‘pit of ruin’.

The Royal Crown: אֱלֹהִים - Elohim crowns us with ‘loyal love’ and ‘deep mercy’. It is like wearing a crown of grace!

Fresh Strength: Your youth becomes new and strong like an eagle. אֱלֹהִים - Elohim gives fresh energy for life.

Justice and Truth: אֱלֹהִים - Elohim helps those who ‘hurt and are weak’.

The Insight of Maimonides: In the spirit of Maimonides (The Rambam), knowing אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is not about seeing physical acts, but ‘understanding His ways’ the ‘intellectual’ and ‘moral grasp’ of His attributes of ‘justice’, ‘loving-kindness’, and ‘truth’ as taught to Moses. True praise comes from a clear, wise mind that perceives how אֱלֹהִים - Elohim runs our world with ‘wisdom’ and ‘goodness’.

I trust the above has touched you and allow us to be good and faithful Hebrews, returning to the blessed based scriptural faith, which אֱלֹהִים - Elohim desires to be within us!
