Remember the following two
truth’s from our beloved Scriptures!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2.
“This is My Name FOREVER, and this is My Memorial to ALL Generations”. Shemot - Exodus 3:15. (JPS).

“What Does “Shanah” Mean?.
With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.
Just before the study, I would like to
commence with one further important quote from the book of Yahoshua - Joshua Ch
1:7-8. (JPS-1917).
“Be strong and courageous. Be careful to obey the entire Torah My servant Moshe has given you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Torah depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

This may be a short Study, but it is rather interesting!
The Hebrew word שנה - ‘shanah’ meaning, ‘year’, however, it also means ‘change’ and ‘repetition’.
That’s rather powerful, for it reminds us that every year is both a cycle that repeats and it renews.
When the Hebrew New Year, ‘Rosh HaShanah’, begins, it’s not just about flipping a calendar page. It’s a divine invitation to ‘reflect’, ‘repent’, and ‘return to אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim (God) with new strength.
Every Shanah says:
Yes, life repeats with ‘work’, ‘struggles’, ‘relationships’, but each time, it will be slightly different. Every cycle brings another chance to ‘start again’, to ‘grow’, to ‘realign’ with a blessed purpose, getting closer to our אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, and blessed be He!
A fact:
The same Hebrew root ש־נ־ה forms both ‘second’ (sheni) and ‘to repeat’ (lishnot). Even the language itself teaches that every repetition carries transformation!
Each year is not just another round, for it is a sacred opportunity to begin, start all over again like brand new.
Here are a few examples from the Torah:
Bereshit - Genesis 1:14. (all verses are based on JPS-1917).
“And
אֱלֹהִים-
Elohim said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the
day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and
שָׁנִים - years.”
Bereshit - Genesis 5:5.
“And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty שָׁנָה - years, and he died”.
Deuteronomy 11:12.
“A land which יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ - the LORD thy Eohheicha careth for; the eyes of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ the LORD thy Eloheicha are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the שָׁנָה year”.
These verses show how שָׁנָה - Shanah and its forms (shanim, ha-shanah) appear throughout the Torah, always tied to אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s creation, ‘human life’, and ‘His faithful care’ through every passing year.
