Remember the following two truth’s from our beloved Scriptures!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

“Regarding Eliyahu

Was he taken to heaven, or what?.

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Let us look at the question regarding Eliyahu - Elijah, for we are told that he was taken and caught up to heaven!

Personally, no matter what we are told, or what it seems to say, but I stand strong on the sheer fact that not a single person has ever ascended, or gone to heaven! I have had people ask me, but Rabbi what about Eliyahu, was he taken up into heaven, or not?

There is no doubt that as can be read in 2 Kings 2:11 that Eliyahu was indeed taken up in a chariot in a miraculous manner. Let us look at the actual verse stating his departure.

“And it came to pass ... that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven”. 2 Kings 2:11. (JPS-1917).

Thus he was actually taken into the שָׁמַיִם = She’ma’yim” (the sky), which means he was taken into the sky, or into the clouds. The fact is the reason Elijah was taken away, that he could be safely transported to another location and allow Elisha to continue his work. Now, you might say, how can you possibly say that, for the Word say’s He was taken to Heaven, thus you are wrong!

Well as I have already indicated, the Hebrew word הַשָּׁמָיִם - “Ha’sha’mayim” or “Mayim” in Hebrew means “the sky”, or “Air”, even “Clouds”, and it can also be “… alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move.” Thus we are clearly speaking of a space that is within our own atmosphere and not something out there in the far reaches of space,(in fact אֱלֹהִים - Elohim resides outside of His creation) a place we may think of as being heaven where our Heavenly Father resides! But then again אֱלֹהִים is always with us, for if you are a true Hebrew believer in our beloved אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, be glad you are here where אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, blessed be He, placed you and me! I know that Christians believe when they die they go up to heaven, and be with their god. The only thing is that their very Bible also clearly states that the dead will be raised from their graves at a certain time. But, I am sorry, you cannot have it both ways!

Let me share with you something that is generally not known, it is a truth which comes directly from the Word of אֱלֹהִים, and this will shed a brand new light on the whole event of him being taken up, etc!

When Eliyahu was taken away during the reign of King Jehoshaphat who ruled Judah (and he was the 4th king of Judah) you will find Jehoshaphat mentioned in 2 Kings 1:17 and 2 Kings 3:11 & 12, it was Eliyahu’s removal in 2 Kings 2:11 lies at the heart of the narrative. But what was that?

Many years later after the faithful king Jehoshaphat had passed away, Eliyahu the prophet of יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים - the LORD Elohim, was now living somewhere in security, but he wrote and sent a letter to new king Jehoram, who reigned in Jerusalem. This is Eliyahu’s letter ...

“Jehoram received a letter from Eliyahu the prophet, which said: “This is what אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim of your father David, says: ‘You have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah’” 2 Chronicles 21:12.

Now does this come as a shock to you? For all those rabbis, and Christian ministers have all been teaching you that Eliyahu was taken up to heaven and was with our Heavenly Father, etc. But the truth is, as is shown to us very clearly in the Tanakh of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, used him some years later, for Eliyahu to write a letter of warning to the new king telling the king what would happen to him because of his evil ways.

YYYYYYY

I will now provide Eliyahu’s actual letter from the book of 2 Chronicles and then the result of this evil king’s life and his horrid death.

Jehoram received a letter from Eliyahu - Elijah the prophet, which said: “This is what אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim of your father David, says: ‘You have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah. But you have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and you have led Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab did. You have also murdered your own brothers, members of your father's house, men who were better than you. So now יְהוָה is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives and everything that is yours, with a heavy blow. You yourself will be very ill with a lingering disease of the bowels, until the disease causes your bowels to come out.” יְהוָה aroused against Jehoram the hostility of the Philistines and of the Arabs who lived near the Cushites. They attacked Judah, invaded it and carried off all the goods found in the king’s palace, together with his sons and wives. Not a son was left to him except Ahaziah, the youngest. After all this, יְהוָה afflicted Jehoram with an incurable disease of the bowels. In the course of time, at the end of the second year, his bowels came out because of the disease, and he died in great pain. His people made no fire in his honour, as they had for his fathers. Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He passed away, to no one’s regret, and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.” 2 Chronicles 21:12-20.

I am sure, it has now become totally clear that Eliyahu was still alive many years after he was taken up in that whirlwind, which the Almighty indeed did by His blessed and mighty hand, for יְהוָה - the LORD removed him and allowed Elisha a “double portion” in order for him to continue the work that Eliyahu had commenced, but for reasons of His own יְהוָה took Eliyahu His faithful servant to Judah, being very much here on this earth, to live in, and being a safe place for him! Only אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim knows why He had to remove him! Of course in due time, Eliyahu would have died just like any other of the faithful prophets of אֱלֹהִים!
