Colour coded details of the - TaNaKh:

Tehillim - Psalm 119:18..

(JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).

Please Note: Some alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’ of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, having been corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

However, sadly both the later priests as well as our rabbis of long ago have shamefully disobeyed this command of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ – ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

 “Psalms 131 & 132”

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Foreword:

Below are two Psalms, being Psalm 131 and Psalm 132, there will be a brief introduction and a conclusion message, but each Psalm will be treated separately.

Introduction:

Psalm 131 and Psalm 132 are ‘Songs of Ascents’ that model two complementary spiritual postures: humble quiet trust (131) and devoted seeking of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s (God) dwelling and kingship (132). They teach ‘inner stillness’ and ‘communal covenantal hope’.

Let us read Tehillim Psalm 131: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).

1. “A Song of Ascents; of David. יְהוָה - LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty;
neither do I exercise myself in things too great, or in things too wonderful for me.
2. Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother; my soul is with me like a weaned child.
3. O Israel, hope in יְהוָה - the LORD from this time forth and forever”.

Let us now view the interesting verse by verse item, with explanations:

Verse 1. “A Song of Ascents; of David. יְהוָה - LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; Neither do I exercise myself in things too great, or in things too wonderful for me”.

Explanation: The speaker renounces pride and ambition; spiritual maturity begins with realistic humility.

Verse 2. “Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child with his mother; My soul is with me like a weaned child”.

Explanation: The central image is peaceful contentment, trust that is calm, not clinging or anxious.

Verse 3. “O Israel, hope in יְהוָה - the LORD From this time forth and for ever”.

Explanation: The brief communal summons turns private serenity into public exhortation: Israel is called to enduring hope.

Let us now read Tehillim Psalm 132: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).

1. A Song of Ascents. יְהוָה - LORD, remember unto David all his affliction;
2. How he swore unto יְהוָה - the LORD, and vowed unto the Mighty One of Jacob:
3. ‘Surely I will not come into the tent of my house, nor go up into the bed that is spread for me;
4. I will not give sleep to mine eyes, nor slumber to mine eyelids;
5. Until I find out a place for יְהוָה - the LORD, a dwelling-place for the Mighty One of Jacob’.
6. Lo, we heard of it as being in Ephrath; we found it in the field of the wood.
7. Let us go into His dwelling-place; let us worship at His footstool.
8. Arise, O יְהוָה - LORD, unto Thy resting-place; Thou, and the ark of Thy strength.
9. Let Thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let Thy saints shout for joy.
10. For Thy servant David’s sake turn not away the face of Thine anointed.
11. יְהוָה - the LORD swore unto David in truth; He will not turn back from it: ‘Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
12. If thy children keep My covenant and My testimony that I shall teach them,
their children also for ever shall sit upon thy throne’.
13. For יְהוָה - the LORD hath chosen Zion; He hath desired it for His habitation:
14. ‘This is My resting-place for ever; here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
15. I will abundantly bless her provision; I will give her needy bread in plenty.
16. Her priests also will I clothe with salvation; and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
17. There will I make a horn to shoot up unto David, there have I ordered a lamp for Mine anointed.
18. His enemies will I clothe with shame; but upon himself shall his crown shine’”.

Let us now view the interesting verse by verse item, with explanations:

Verses 1-5. “Remember, O יְהוָה - LORD, unto David all his affliction; how he vowed to find a dwelling for יְהוָה - the LORD; he would not sleep until he found a place for the Ark”.

Explanation: The Psalm opens with David’s vow and zeal to secure a permanent place for אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s presence, devotion that sacrifices comfort for sacred purpose.

Verses 6-8. “We found it in Ephrath; let us go into His dwelling; arise, O יְהוָה - LORD, unto Thy resting place, Thou and the ark of Thy strength”.

Explanation: The community discovers and escorts the ark; the language invites אֱלֹהִים - Elohim to take up residence among His people.

Verses 9-10. “Let Thy priests be clothed with righteousness; for David’s sake turn not away the face of Thine anointed”.

Explanation: Priestly integrity and Divine fidelity to David’s line are linked royal and cultic stability go together.

Verses 11-14. יְהוָה - the LORD swore to David: I will set the fruit of thy body upon thy throne; I will establish the horn of David; I will also appoint a lamp for Mine anointed”.

Explanation: Divine oath guarantees dynastic continuity and a perpetual place for אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s chosen ruler.

Verses 15-18. “I will abundantly bless her provision; I will clothe her priests with salvation; there will I make the horn of David to bud; I will prepare a lamp for Mine anointed”.

Explanation: The closing promises blessing for Zion, priestly salvation, and flourishing of David’s line linking land, worship, and kingship.

My Concluding message:

How wonderful that Psalm 131 trains the heart to rest; whilst Psalm 132 channels that rest into committed action for אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s dwelling and covenant. We also can pair; inner stillness; with; outward devotion;, believe me, faith fuels faithful service and ‘communal hope!’
