Re Tanakh versions:
Throughout this site I
may use any of the following three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2. “Mechon-Mamre.org”
(MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org”
(SEF), three brilliant versions, although JPS-1917 is my preferred version!
Colour coded
details of our beloved TaNaKh:
1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.
*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job,
the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song of Solomon, Ruth,

Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles I & II.
Please Note: Some
alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’
of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, having been
corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye
shall NOT ADD
TO THE WORD which I command
you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT,
that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy
4:2. (JPS-1917).

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.
In our beloved Tanakh there are countless treasures to be found, and below is one which is quite unique!
Let us look at Tehillim - Psalms 57, verses 3 and 4: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).
I will show the verses first in Ivrit - Hebrew, followed by the English Translation!
אֶקְרָא, לֵאלֹהִים עֶלְיוֹן; לָאֵל, גֹּמֵר עָלָי
Verse 3: “I will cry unto אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God) Most high; unto אֱלֹהִים - Elohim that accomplisheth it for me”.
יִשְׁלַח
מִשָּׁמַיִם, וְיוֹשִׁיעֵנִי
חֵרֵף
שֹׁאֲפִי
סֶלָה
יִשְׁלַח
אֱלֹהִים, חַסְדּוֹ
וַאֲמִתּוֹ
Verse 4: “He will send from heaven, and save me, when he that would swallow me up taunteth; Selah. אֱלֹהִים - Elohim shall send forth His mercy and His truth”.

Linguistic
& Personal Insight:
The phrase ‘Gomer Alai’ - גֹּמֵר עָלָי (at the end of verse 3) is often translated as “who accomplishes for me”, but it also carries the sense of “completing” or “perfecting”.
The Reflection: It suggests that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is not just a rescuer, but a finisher. What He starts in us, He brings to completion. We could discuss how this “completing” power feels relevant to your current life’s work or spiritual journey but stay true to our beloved Hebrew faith and uphold the Mitzvah’s”!
Creative
Meditation or Liturgy:
We can use these verses to also craft a
personal “Kavanah” - כַּוָּנָה -
a Hebrew term meaning “intention”, “direction
of the heart” or “sincere feeling”.
It refers to the necessary state of ‘mindfulness’, ‘focus’, and ‘devotion’ a worshiper should have during prayer (meditation), or when performing religious acts such as obeying the mitzvoth. It represents the “soul" of a ritual, opposing rote, automatic action, or a short modern prayer.
For example:
“In moments of pressure, I look beyond the ‘walls of the cave’ to the אֱלֹהִים - Elohim who finishes what I cannot. May the Truth and Mercy promised in verse 4 be the shield that meets the noise of the world today”.
I pray that the Scripture of Tehillim - Psalms 57, will reveal the beauty and possibilities’ for you! For as you have seen, it does contain a very special message!
