Remember the following truth from our beloved
Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD
which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE
DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2.
However, sadly both the later priests as well as our rabbis of long ago have shamefully disobeyed this command of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ – ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

Foreword:
Psalm 75 is a powerful song of Divine sovereignty. While Psalm 73 dealt with the internal struggle of seeing the wicked prosper, Psalm 75 is the resounding answer: a declaration that God is the ultimate Judge who operates on His own timeline.
Introduction: The Cup
of Judgment:
Psalm 75 is a song of “Al-tashheth” (Destroy not). It is a communal thanksgiving that transitions into a prophetic warning. The central theme is authority. The Psalm reminds us that power does not come from the east, the west, or the desert, it comes from אֱלֹהִים - Elohim - God. It serves as a sobering reminder that while the wicked may lift their “horns” (a symbol of strength and pride) today, there is a “set time” when the Judge of all the earth will execute perfect equity.

Let us read Tehillim -
Psalm Chapter 75: (JPS-1917
version of the Tanakh).
1. “For the Leader; Al-tashheth. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song.
2. We give thanks unto Thee, O אֱלֹהִים
- Elohim, we give thanks, and Thy Name is near; men tell of Thy wondrous
works.
3. ‘When I take the appointed time, I Myself will judge with equity.
4. When the earth and all the inhabitants thereof are
dissolved, I Myself establish the pillars of it’. Selah.
5. I say unto the arrogant: ‘Deal not arrogantly’;
and to the wicked: ‘Lift not up the horn’.
6. Lift not up your horn on high; speak not insolence
with a haughty neck.
7. For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor
yet from the wilderness, cometh lifting up.
8. For אֱלֹהִים
- Elohim is judge; He putteth down one, and lifteth up another.
9. For in the hand of יְהוָה - the LORD there is a cup, with foaming
wine, full of mixture, and He poureth out of the same; surely the dregs
thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them.
10. But as for me, I will declare for ever, I will
sing praises to the אֱלֹהִים of Jacob.
11. All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off;
but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up”.

Let us now look at it
‘verse by verse’ with commentary:
The Thanksgiving (Verse 1).
v. 1: “We give thanks unto Thee, O אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, we give thanks, and Thy Name is near; men tell of Thy wondrous works.”
The community begins with gratitude, acknowledging that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s “Name” (His presence and reputation) is close at hand, evidenced by His miracles.
The Voice of אֱלֹהִים (Verses 2-4).
v. 2: “‘When I take the appointed time, I Myself will judge with equity’”.
אֱלֹהִים interrupts the prayer to speak. He declares that He has a “set time” (moed) for justice. We may be impatient, but He is precise.
v. 3: “‘When the earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved, I Myself establish the pillars of it. Selah’”
When society feels like it is melting or falling apart, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is the one holding the structural “pillars” of reality in place.
v. 4: “‘I say unto the arrogant: Deal not arrogantly; and to the wicked: Lift not up the horn;’”
A Divine warning against the “horn”, the display of ego and animalistic power.
The Source of Promotion (Verses 5-8).
v. 5: “‘Lift not up your horn on high; speak not with a stiff neck’”.
The “stiff neck” represents a refusal to bow to higher moral authority.
v. 6: “For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the wilderness, cometh lifting up”.
True advancement or “lifting up” does not come from human geography or political alliances.
v. 7: “For אֱלֹהִים is judge; He putteth down one, and lifteth up another”.
This is the core of the Psalm. The rise and fall of leaders and individuals is ultimately in the hands of the Divine.
v. 8: “For in the hand of יְהוָה - the LORD there is a cup, with foaming wine, full of mixture, and He poureth out of the same; surely the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them”.
The “Cup” is a metaphor for destiny. The wicked must drink the “dregs”, the bitter consequences of their own choices.
The Resolution (Verses 9-11).
v. 9: “But as for me, I will declare for ever, I will sing praises to the אֱלֹהִים of Jacob”. The psalmist identifies with the “ אֱלֹהִים of Jacob”. the אֱלֹהִים - Elohim of the covenant and the underdog.
v. 10: “All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up”.
The Psalm concludes with a reversal of fortune. The false power of the arrogant is severed, while the quiet strength of the righteous is finally vindicated and raised high.
v. 11: “All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up”.
This final verse serves as the definitive “sentence” passed by the Judge. The “horn” represents the pride and the power of the individual. אֱלֹהִים declares a total reversal of the world’s status quo: the aggressive, self-exalting power of the wicked is removed, while the dignity and strength of the righteous, which may have been hidden or suppressed, are finally elevated by אֱלֹהִים Himself.

Closing Message: “The
Appointed Time”:
The message of Psalm 75 is one of radical patience. It tells us that we do not need to fight for status or panic when the “arrogant” seem to be in control. There is a “Set Time” (Moed) for everything.
In our personal lives, we often look to the “East or West”, to our bosses, our neighbors, or our critics, to determine our worth or our progress. This Psalm reorients us. It tells us to look Up. If אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is the one who establishes the pillars of the earth, He is certainly capable of establishing the path of your life. When you feel the world is “dissolving”, remember Verse 3: He is holding the pillars. Trust the Judge, for His equity is perfect!
