Remember the following truth from our beloved
Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which
I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM
IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2.
However, sadly both the later priests as well as our rabbis of long ago have shamefully disobeyed this command of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ – ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

Introduction:
Psalm 45 is an ancient royal song, ‘part love’, ‘poem’, ‘part coronation ode’, addressed to a king and celebrating his beauty, strength, and covenantal rule. It blends courtly imagery with divine endorsement, and has been read both as a literal Royal hymn and as a symbolic text about ideal kingship.
Let us now read Tehllim-Psalm
Chapter 45: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).
1.
“For the Leader; upon ‘Shoshannim’; (a Psalm) of the sons of Korah.
Maschil. A Song of loves.
2. My heart overfloweth
with a goodly matter; I say: ‘My work is concerning a king’; my tongue is the
pen of a ready
writer.
3. Thou art fairer than the children of men; grace is
poured upon thy lips;
therefore אֱלֹהִים - Elohim hath blessed
thee for ever.
4. Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O mighty one, thy
glory and thy majesty.
5. And in thy majesty prosper, ride on, in behalf of
truth and meekness and righteousness;
and let thy right hand teach thee tremendous things.
6. Thine arrows are sharp, the
peoples fall under thee (they sink) into the heart of the king’s enemies.
7. Thy throne given of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is for ever
and ever; a scepter of equity is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
8. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness; therefore אֱלֹהִים- Elohim, thy אֱלֹהִים, hath anointed thee with the oil of
gladness above thy fellows.
9. Myrrh, and aloes, and cassia are all thy garments;
out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made thee glad.
10. Kings’ daughters are among thy favourites; at thy right hand doth stand the queen in gold
of Ophir.
11. ‘Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own
people, and thy father’s house;
12. So shall the king desire thy beauty; for He is יְהוָה - thy LORD; and do
homage unto him.
13. And, O daughter of Tyre,
the richest of the people shall entreat thy favour
with a gift’.
14. All glorious is the king’s daughter within the
palace; her raiment is of chequer work inwrought with
gold.
15. She shall be led unto the king on richly woven
stuff; the virgins her companions in her train being brought unto thee.
16. They shall be led with gladness and rejoicing;
they shall enter into the king’s palace.
17. Instead of thy fathers shall be thy sons, whom
thou shalt make princes in all the land.
18. I will make thy Name to be remembered in all
generations; therefore shall the peoples praise thee for ever and ever’”.

Let us now view the ‘verse by verse’ item with verse explanations:
Verse 1. “My heart overfloweth with a goodly matter; I say: ‘My work is concerning a king’; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
Explanation: The poet announces a deliberate composition, this is crafted praise for a royal figure.
Verse 2 — Thou art fairer than the children of men; grace is poured upon thy lips; therefore אֱלֹהִים - Elohim hath blessed thee for ever.
Explanation: The king’s attractiveness and gracious speech are linked to divine blessing.
Verse 3. Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O mighty one, thy glory and thy majesty.
Explanation: The king is both courtly and martial, called to exercise power with dignity.
Verse 4. And in thy majesty prosper, ride on, in behalf of truth and meekness and righteousness; and let thy right hand teach thee tremendous things.
Explanation: Royal success is framed as service to justice and humility, not mere conquest.
Verse 5. Thine arrows are sharp the peoples fall under thee, they sink into the heart of the king’s enemies.
Explanation: Military metaphors stress decisive victory granted to the king.
Verse 6. Thy throne given of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is for ever and ever; a sceptre of equity is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Explanation: The throne’s legitimacy is divine and its rule is to be equitable.
Verse 7. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness; therefore אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, thy אֱלֹהִים, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Explanation: Moral character, love of righteousness earns the king special anointing and joy.
Verses 8-9. The king’s robes, perfume, and ivory palaces portray ceremonial splendor and royal honour.
Verses 10-12. The bride is summoned; the poem shifts to the royal marriage, emphasizing beauty, dignity, and the bride’s new status.
Verses 13-15. The bride’s adornment and procession are described—this is both nuptial and political: marriage secures alliances and continuity.
Verses 16-17. The king’s offspring and name endure; the poem closes with a vow that his memory will be celebrated.
Verse 18. A final note of praise and public testimony completes the song.
My Closing message:
If you have read Psalm 45 devotionally you will know that an ideal ruler whose authority is Divinely sanctioned, morally grounded, and ritually affirmed. For teaching, contrast the poem’s courtly imagery with its ethical demands: true kingship combines splendour with justice and fidelity!
