Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of אֱלֹהֵיכֶם יְהוָה - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

Sunday: Psalm 24.

1. “A Psalm of David.
The earth is
יְהוָה - the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2. For He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. 3. Who shall ascend into the mountain of יְהוָה - the LORD? and who shall stand in His holy place? 4. He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not taken My name in vain, and hath not sworn deceitfully. 5. He shall receive a blessing from יְהוָה - the LORD, and righteousness from the אֱלֹהִים - Elohim of His Salvation. 6. Such is the generation of them that seek after Him, that seek Thy face, even Jacob. Selah. 7. Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; that the King of glory may come in. 8. Who is the King of glory?
יְהוָה - the LORD strong and mighty, יְהוָה - the LORD mighty in battle. 9. Lift up your heads, O ye gates, yea, lift them up, ye everlasting doors’; 10. Who then is the King of glory?’ צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהִים - the LORD of Tzva’ot (hosts); He is the King of glory”. Selah.

There is no doubt that Psalm 24 is a majestic hymn celebrating אֱלֹהִים - Elohim as Creator of the universe, Sovereign of the Temple, and the approaching King of Glory. Based on the JPS 1917 Tanakh, it falls into two cohesive movements: the declaration of Divine ownership paired with moral qualification (verses 1-6), and then the dramatic liturgical call for the gates to open to the King (verses 7-10).

Universal Creation and Moral Entry (Verses 1-6):

Divine Ownership (vv. 1-2): Asserts that the earth, its contents, and humanity belong to אֱלֹהִים - Elohim because He established the solid world upon the primal chaos of waters and floods.

The Holy Ascent (v. 3): Poses the central covenant question: who is worthy to scale the mountain of יְהוָה - the LORD and stand in His sacred space?

Ethical Purity (v. 4): Defines worthiness through outward actions (“clean hands”), inner sincerity (“pure heart”), truthfulness, and integrity in oaths rather than empty rituals.

The Seeker’s Reward (vv. 5-6): Promises Divine blessing and righteousness to those who genuinely seek the presence and face of the אֱלֹהִים - Elohim of Jacob.

The King of Glory Arrives (Verses 7-10):

Lifting the Gates (vv. 7 & 9): A dramatic, personified command addressed to the ancient temple gates to raise their lintels so the majestic King can enter.

The Warrior and Host (vv. 8 & 10): The dialogue identifies the King of Glory twice: first as יְהוָה - the LORD strong, mighty, and victorious in battle, and second as צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהִים - the LORD of Tzva’ot (hosts), the ultimate supreme ruler!
