Remember the following two truth’s from our beloved Scriptures!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

Proverbs 3:1-7

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

A Brief Introduction:

Below are seven remarkable verses, which I know will have an amazing value to our lives, if we will only listen, and live our life, worshipping אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ - ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

Mishle Shlomo - Proverbs Chapter 3:1-7. (JPS-1917 version).

1. “My son, forget not My teaching; but let thy heart keep My Commandments;
2. For length of ‘days’, and ‘years of life’, and ‘peace’, will they add to thee.
3. Let not ‘kindness’ and ‘truth’ forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, ‘write them upon the table of thy heart’;
4. So shalt thou find ‘grace and good favour’ in the sight of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim and man.
5. Trust in יְהוָה - the LORD with all thy heart, and lean not upon thine own understanding.
6. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct thy paths.

7. Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear יְהוָה - the LORD, and depart from evil”.

The seven verses shown above form a compact teaching guide, regarding our beloved אֱלֹהִים - Eohim’s wisdom. We need to remember and obey אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s instruction, as well as cultivate a steadfast love and faithfulness, trust אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, rather than your own understanding, and live with ‘reverent humility’, all of which produces ‘long life’, ‘peace’, and ‘favour’.

A special Overview:

Proverbs 3:1-7 pairs practical ethics with spiritual trust: Obedience to instruction brings ‘length of days’, ‘peace’, and ‘favour’, while trusting אֱלֹהִים (not self) and fearing יְהוָה - the LORD keeps us from folly. This passage is commonly read as a father’s counsel to a son, urging internalization of wisdom rather than mere external compliance.

Let us now look at the chapter verse by verse to obtain an even better insight:

Verses 1-2: Remembering and keeping the teaching is presented as the root of ‘flourishing longevity’ and ‘peace’ are the promised outcomes. The language links moral formation to real-life wellbeing!

Verses 3-4: Kindness (steadfast love) and truth (faithfulness) are to be worn and written on our heart, as well as visible and internal virtues that win grace and favour before אֱלֹהִים and people in general.

Verses 5-6: Trust יְהוָה - the LORD with all your heart and acknowledge Him in all your ways; the result is divine guidance אֱלֹהִים will make your path straight.

Verse 7: A warning against self-conceit: fear יְהוָה - the LORD and turn from evil; in humility and moral avoidance are healthful disciplines.

In Closing:

Why not make these precious 7 verses as a plan, not just a text to admire but to actually use it to change your life for the better! Why not memorize them, and bring them to life in your daily habits so that His wisdom can become the engine or the rest of your life rather than it being just a slogan! May אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה bless and keep you!
