Remember the following two truth’s from our beloved Scriptures!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments
of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2.

Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.
Amazingly, our
life is more special than we often have not understood. The truth is that we
always need to remember that we really live in an אֱלֹהִים - Elohim environment: Well, let me explain?
We really need to understand the following:
When אֱלֹהִים - Elohim wanted to create fish, He spoke to the sea.
When אֱלֹהִים - Elohim wanted to create trees, He spoke to the earth.
However, when אֱלֹהִים - Elohim wanted to create man, He turned to Himself.
And Elohim
said ... “Let us make man in our image and in our likeness”.
Now, if you
take a fish out of water, it will die; and when you remove a tree from its soil, it will also die.
Likewise, when man becomes disconnected from
our beloved Elohim, he will die!
אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, blessed be He, is our natural environment. We were created to
live in His presence. We have to connect to Him because it is only in Him
that our life actually exists.
What did the above really tell us?
Thus let us
remain closely connected to אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ
שֵׁם
קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ - ‘Blessed be His Holy
Name!’ Amen.
YYYYYYY
From what we
were told above, there are passages that reflects the
above theme in general, certainly about man’s dependence on אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה – the LORD Elohim being such a huge part of his (our) life environment.
Certain verses support that, but I will now show them and it comes with brief
notes tying each verse to the imagery of ‘fish’, ‘trees’, and ‘man in אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s presence’.
The Relevant Scriptures:
Bereshit -
Genesis 1:26:
“And אֱלֹהִים - Elohim said: ‘Let us
make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the
fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over
all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth
upon the earth’’
This verse is the direct scriptural source for “Let us make man in
our image and in our likeness”, proving man’s unique relation to אֱלֹהִים.
Bereshit -
Deuteronomy 30:19-20:
“I call heaven
and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before your life and
death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed
may live; by loving יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֶיךָ
- the LORD thy Eloheycha (God), by hearkening to His voice, and by cleaving
unto Him; for He is thy life, and the length of thy days”.
The above
passage explicitly links our life to cleaving to יְהוָה - the LORD echoing your point that apart from אֱלֹהִים
man cannot truly live.
Tehillim - Psalm 36:7-9:
“How precious is Thy loving-kindness, O אֱלֹהִים! and the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Thy wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Thy house; and Thou makest them drink of the river of Thy pleasures”.
These lines
picture אֱלֹהִים
as the sustaining
environment, a shelter and source of nourishment for people, like water for
fish or soil for trees.
Tehillim - Psalm 1:2-3:
“But his
delight is in the law of יְהוָה - the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be
like a tree planted by streams of water, that bringeth
forth its fruit in his season, and whose leaf doth not wither; and whatsoever
he doeth shall prosper”.
The image of a
tree planted by streams matches your analogy: rooted in אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s presence, a person flourishes; removed, he withers!
Yeshayahu - Isaiah 40:28-31:
“Hast thou not
known? hast thou not heard? the
everlasting אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה
- the LORD Elohim, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth
not, neither is weary; ... He giveth power to the
faint; and to him that hath no might He increaseth
strength. But they that wait for יְהוָה - the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as
eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint”.
This passage
affirms that renewal and life comes from waiting on and relying upon יְהוָה - the LORD.
Yirmyahu - Jeremiah 17:7-8:
“Blessed is
the man that trusteth in יְהוָה
- the LORD, and whose hope יְהוָה
- the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see
when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the
year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit”.
Jeremiah’s
promise again ties trust in יְהוָה
- the LORD to enduring life and fruitfulness, the exact spiritual parallel to
the fish/tree analogies.
Closing
Statement:
Thus, we need
to remain rooted, and cleave unto אֱלֹהִים
יְהוָה –
as the passages above, combined together reveals that ‘life’, ‘strength’,
and ‘renewal flow’ should be with us whilst we abide in אֱלֹהִים – Elohim, בָּרוּךְ
שֵׁם
קָדוֹשׁוֹ
- Blessed be His Holy Name. Amen.
I trust that
you have gained something special from this rather different study.
