Re Tanakh versions:

Throughout this site I may use any of three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2. “Mechon-Mamre.org” (MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org” (SEF), three brilliant versions, However, the JPS-1917 is my preferred version!

Colour coded details of our beloved TaNaKh:

1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.

*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job, the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, prophecy of Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles I & II.

Please Note: Some alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’ of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God), having been corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of אֱלֹהֵיכֶם יְהוָה - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

“Our Moral Compass”

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Please Note: All verses are from the JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh.

It is amazing how easy it is to become so caught up with the countless distractions which the world tends to present us these days!

If we check Psalm 119, verse 105 we will find that is tells us the following:

נֵר-לְרַגְלִי דְבָרֶךָ; וְאוֹר, לִנְתִיבָתִי

“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”. Psalms 119:105.

In addition, the Tanakh also tell us:

בְּטַח אֶל-יְהוָה, בְּכָל-לִבֶּךָ; וְאֶל-בִּינָתְךָ, אַל-תִּשָּׁעֵן

בְּכָל-דְּרָכֶיךָ דָעֵהוּ; וְהוּא, יְיַשֵּׁר אֹרְחֹתֶיךָ

“Trust in יְהוָה - the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”. Proverbs 3:5-6.

Introduction:

As the author, I will share this study in love, even though it will cover the certain sensitive areas, but it is has been carefully covered in prayer, for it is my sincere desire to see blessing where blessing is due and above all restoration, where restoration with our beloved יְהוָהּ - the LORD maters will be required! Alternatively, for those who are faithful Hebrews, may this study be a blessing! Above all, I desire to see your Compass needle aiming in the ‘Right Direction’!

Elohim’s Word - A Pathfinder:

Our blessed Tanakh as shown at the top of this page, I pray did set the tone for this guide on how to check our ‘Moral Compass’. For, יְהוָה - the LORD, blessed be His Sanctified Name, is without a doubt our pathfinder, very much like a Compass that will guide us in which direction we should be heading in!

But, as we will know, there have been times where we have gone Off-Course, be it due to outside influences, or even due to internal problems, or worse still, it could also be due to selfish desires and therefore we begin to live according to our own ‘wish’, ‘understanding’ and ‘ways’. Of course therein lays the source of the problem, for many may have been living in the; ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Myself’, and there we can clearly see the source of our problems in our spiritual lives!

For instance, if we would take a compass you would notice that the needle always points towards the magnetic North! However, if you would take a magnet or a piece of iron next to the Compass, you will see what occurs. The needle will be completely distracted as it will be pulled into another direction, and the Compass will no longer be accurate and it will be in error, for it is now controlled by outside influences, in this case is it the ‘magnet’ or the ‘piece of iron’?

However my prayer is that if we are truly prayerful and in our heart and soul desire to know אֱלֹהִים - Elohim in Spirit and in Truth, that we will come to know the fullness of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim. We should always remember that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim Who is “the Word”, for the Word was and is our beloved Creator!

“By the Word of יְהוָה - the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth”. Psalm 33:6.

Once we come into His loving presence through ‘faith’ and ‘repentance’ and live in accordance to His will, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim will lovingly guide us in His paths and also in making wise decisions!

However, the truth is that the ways of the world, and its ‘harmful associations’ and ‘worldly distractions’ are like a magnet or a piece of Iron, that tends to pull us in the wrong direction, but worse still, it may well distract our ‘spiritual judgement’!

The power of the magnet and iron can be so strong, and if we let it these two together can even pull us away from ‘loving’ and worshipping our יְהוָה - LORD to the point that we may stop living in His will!

We have to be completely honest here, for these distractions can be many things, as well as ‘bad choices with associations! For many poor choices could well lead us on a path of ‘vanity’, ‘lust’, ‘greed’ and even ‘sex and drugs’ and all this will distract a person from אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s way of life and His loving Word of truth, and thus ‘repentance is needed’!

The truth is this: If you really love our Heavenly Father with all of your heart and your soul, then I believe that we should do everything in our power to avoid the ‘distractions’ we have just read about! For it is vital that we should spend as much time as is possible in reading and studying our blessed Scriptures, as well as have ample time in prayer and seek יְהוָה - the LORD for guidance regarding our life, and we should always avoid the ‘wrong people’ or ‘compromising situations’ which may pull you off the right path by throwing our “Moral Compass” off course.

This site was originally created, for those who desired to return to our blessed and wonderful faith. However this site has become very much a teaching site with hundreds of studies!

Remember what אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, blessed be He, said the following through a number of our prophets...

“Return unto Me, and I will return unto you, saith צְבָאוֹת- יְהוָה- the LORD of hosts” Mal’a’chi - Malachi 3:7. (JPS).
