Remember the following truth from our
beloved Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO
THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL
YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה

Introduction:
Leviticus Chapter 15 addresses the sanctity of the human body and the boundaries of purity. Following the laws concerning external afflictions, the Torah here focuses on internal bodily discharges. This chapter establishes that holiness is not a distant concept but one that governs the most private and natural functions of life. It teaches that the physical state of the individual directly impacts their standing within the holy community and their proximity to the Sanctuary.

Commentary on Leviticus Chapter 15:
Verses 1-15: (The Concept of Ritual Buffer). The “issue”
described here refers to an abnormal physical condition. The Torah places a
heavy emphasis on the ritual “contagion” of this state, affecting every object
the person touches or rests upon. This created a mandatory social and ritual
buffer, ensuring that the Tabernacle remained insulated from the physical
ailments of the camp. The transition back to purity requires a seven-day
waiting period and a specific offering, highlighting that serious physical
disruptions require a formal spiritual reconciliation.
Verses 16-18: (Natural Human Processes). The text
distinguishes between abnormal illness and natural seminal emissions. By
requiring a simple washing and a waiting period until evening, the Law
acknowledges these as part of the human experience while maintaining a clear
line between common physical acts and the sacred service of the Creator. It
ensures that the physical world is never confused with the direct service of
the Sanctuary.
Verses 19-24: (The Cycle of the Niddah). The regulations for the regular menstrual cycle emphasize personal
discipline and physical restraint. These laws transformed a natural biological
event into a period of religious mindfulness, reminding the nation that even
the natural cycles of life are governed by Divine decree. It establishes a
rhythm of life that prioritizes ritual readiness.
Verses 25-30: (Irregular Conditions). Prolonged or
irregular discharges in a woman are treated with the same ritual gravity as the
abnormal male issue. The requirement of a seven-day “clean” count and a bird
offering highlights the transition from a state of physical disorder back to a
state of spiritual equilibrium. It ensures that even chronic conditions have a
clear path back to the community and the altar.
Verses 31-33: (The Protection of the Sanctuary). The
concluding verses reveal the primary motive for these laws: preventing the
defilement of the Tabernacle. These statutes ensure that the Divine Presence
can continue to dwell in the midst of a people who are, by nature, subject to
physical impurity. It summarizes the categories of the man, the woman, and
those who come into contact with them, unifying the chapter under one holy standard.

My Closing Message:
Leviticus 15 teaches us that true devotion requires the consecration of the entire self body as well as spirit. By bringing the most intimate details of human biology under the umbrella of Divine Law, the Torah elevates the mundane to the level of the holy. It reminds us that our physical state is a vessel for our ‘spiritual life’, and maintaining the ‘purity of that vessel’ is an essential part of walking before the Almighty!
