Throughout this site I may use any of the following three versions of the TaNaKh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2. Mechon-Mamre.org” (MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org” (SEF).
Colour coded details of our beloved TaNaKh:
1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all
other Writings.
*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical
books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job, the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song
of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and
Esther, prophecy of Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and
Chronicles I & II.
Please Note: Some alterations or (additions) have been made relating to
‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’ of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim,
having been corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the
following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE
WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may
keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2.
However, sadly both the later priests as well as our rabbis of long ago and of today have, and are shamefully disobeying this command of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ - ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

Let us read the Interesting 9 verses of
Jeremiah chapter 33: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).
1. Moreover the word of
יְהוָה - the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was
yet shut up in the court of the guard, saying:
2. Thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD the Maker thereof, the LORD that formed it to
establish it, יְהוָה - the LORD is His name:
3. Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and will tell thee great things,
and hidden, which thou knowest not.
4. For thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD, the אֱלֹהִים - Elohim of Israel, concerning the
houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are
broken down for mounds, and for ramparts;
5. whereon
they come to fight with the Chaldeans, even to fill
them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in Mine anger and in My
fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hid My face from this city:
6. Behold, I will bring
it healing and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal unto them the
abundance of peace and truth.
7. And I will cause the
captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them,
as at the first.
8. And I will cleanse
them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against Me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they
have sinned against Me, and whereby they have transgressed against Me.
9. And this city shall
be to Me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a
glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that
I do unto them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the
peace that I procure unto it.

Let us now view Jeremiah 33:1-9 ... “verse by verse” with commentary: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).
Verse 1: The word of יְהוָה - the LORD comes to Yirmyahu - Jeremiah “the second time” while he is “shut up in the court of the guard”. This emphasizes that Divine revelation is not hindered by physical confinement. אֱלֹהִים - Elohim speaks even when the prophet is restricted, showing that His Word is not bound.
Verse 2: אֱלֹהִים identifies Himself as the One “that doeth it … that formeth it … that established it; יְהוָה - the LORD is His Name”. The JPS-1917 preserves the Hebrew cadence. אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s self identification as Creator establishes His authority to promise restoration, as He formed the world, He can also reform Israel’s future.
Verse 3: “Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and will tell thee great things, and hidden, which thou knowest not”. This is an invitation to revelation. “Great and hidden” (b’tzurót) implies inaccessible truths, things locked away unless אֱלֹהִים opens them. Israel’s future restoration is one of those hidden things.
Verses 4-5: Houses are torn down “to make a defense against the mounts and against the sword”. The city is filled with the slain because of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s anger. These verses acknowledge the reality of judgment. The destruction is not random; it is the result of covenant violation. Yet this sets the stage for the coming reversal.
Verse 6: “Behold, I will bring it health and cure.” Our Hebrew rooted JPS wording stresses healing as both physical and spiritual. אֱלֹהִים promises to “cure them” a complete restoration of national well-being.
Verse 7: “I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return”. This is covenant language. “Return” (shuv) is not merely geographic—it is relational. אֱלֹהִים restores both kingdoms, reuniting what had been divided since Solomon.
Verse 8: “I will cleanse them from all their iniquity”. The JPS-1917 emphasizes cleansing, not merely forgiveness. אֱלֹהִים removes the stain of sin, restoring purity to the nation.
Verse 9: Jerusalem becomes “a name of joy … a praise and a glory”. The nations will “fear and tremble for all the good” אֱלֹהִים - Elohim bestows!
In closing: I trust that the above has proven to be very interesting, as it reveals that our beloved Creator is forgiving and does restore us, even when we have wronged Him!
