Remember the
following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD
which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE
DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2.

Introduction to Isaiah 43:
This chapter is a “Song of Redemptiom”. After the stern warnings of the previous chapters, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God) speaks with the tenderness of a Creator. It focuses on the theme of Divine Presence, the promise that whether we go through water or fire, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim does not watch from a distance but is right beside His people!

Let us now read the Yeshayahu - Isaiah Chapter 43: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).
1. “But now thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy Name, thou art Mine.
2. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee, and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3. For I am יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ - the LORD thy Eloheicha, The Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour; I have given Egypt as thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
4. Since thou art precious in My sight, and honourable, and I have loved thee; therefore will I give men for thee, and peoples for thy life.
5. Fear not, for I am with thee; I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
6. I will say to the north: ‘Give up,' and to the south: 'Keep not back, bring My sons from far, and My daughters from the end of the earth;
7. Every one that is called by My Name, and whom I have created for My glory, I have formed him, yea, I have made him’.
8. The blind people that have eyes shall be brought forth, and the deaf that have ears.
9. All the nations are gathered together, and the peoples are assembled; who among them can declare this, and announce to us former things? Let them bring their witnesses, that they may be justified; and let them hear, and say: ‘It is truth’.
10. Ye are My witnesses, saith יְהוָה - the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He; before Me there was no אֱלֹהִים - Elohim formed, neither shall any be after Me.
11. I, even I, am יְהוָה - the LORD; and beside Me there is no Saviour.
12. I have declared, and I have saved, and I have announced, and there was no strange god among you; therefore ye are My witnesses, saith יְהוָה - the LORD, and I am אֱלֹהִים.
13. Yea, since the day was I am He, and there is none that can deliver out of My hand; I will work, and who can reverse it?
14. Thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and I will bring down all of them as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships of their shouting.
15. I am יְהוָה - the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.
16. Thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD, who maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters;
17. Who bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power--they lie down together, they shall not rise, they are extinct, they are quenched as a wick:
18. Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
19. Behold, I will do a new thing; now shall it spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
20. The beasts of the field shall honour Me, the jackals and the ostriches; because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, Mine elect; 21 The people which I formed for Myself, that they might tell of My praise.
22. Yet thou hast not called upon Me, O Jacob, neither hast thou wearied thyself about Me, O Israel.
23. Thou hast not brought Me the small cattle of thy burnt-offerings; neither hast thou honoured Me with thy sacrifices. I have not burdened thee with a meal-offering, nor wearied thee with frankincense.
24. Thou hast bought Me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou satisfied Me with the fat of thy sacrifices; but thou hast burdened Me with thy sins, thou hast wearied Me with thine iniquities.
25. I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake; and thy sins I will not remember.
26. Put Me in remembrance, let us plead together; declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.
27. Thy first father sinned, and thine intercessors have transgressed against Me.
28. Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and I have given Jacob to condemnation, and Israel to reviling”.

Let us now look at the ‘verse by verse’ of this chapter, with good explanations;
Verse 1: But now thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called thee by thy Name, thou art Mine.
Explanation: אֱלֹהִים uses the names “Jacob” (the natural man) and “Israel” (the spiritual prince) to show He owns every part of our identity.
Verse 2: When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Explanation: Trials are inevitable (“when”, not “if”), but they are controlled. אֱלֹהִים limits the power of the elements so they cannot consume you.
Verse 3: For אֲנִי יָהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ - I am the LORD thy Elohim, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour; I have given Egypt as thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
Explanation: אֱלֹהִים demonstrates the immense value He places on Israel, willing to exchange entire empires to secure their freedom.
Verse 4: Since thou wast precious in My sight, and honourable, and I have loved thee; therefore will I give men for thee, and peoples for thy life.
Explanation: This is one of the few places where אֱלֹהִים explicitly tells Israel, “I have loved thee”, basing redemption on His affection rather than their merit.
Verse
5: Fear not, for I am with thee; I will bring thy seed from the east, and
gather thee from the west;
Verse 6: I will
say to the north: ‘Give up’, and to the south: ‘Keep not back’; bring My sons
from far, and My daughters from the end of the earth;
Explanation: A prophecy of the global “Ingathering of the Exiles”. No geography is too distant for אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s command.
Verse 7: Every one that is called by My Name, and whom I have created for My glory, I have formed him, yea, I have made him.
Explanation: Our existence has a purpose: to reflect the “Kavod” (Glory) of the Almighty.
Verse 8: The blind people that have eyes shall be brought forth, and the deaf that have ears.
Explanation: This refers to those who had the capacity to see אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s wonders but were spiritually dull; אֱלֹהִים will now bring them into the light.
Verse 9: All the nations are gathered together, and the peoples are assembled; who among them can declare this, and announce to us former things? let them bring their witnesses, that they may be justified; and let them hear, and say: ‘It is truth’.
Explanation: A courtroom scene where the idols of the nations are challenged to prove they can predict the future. They remain silent.
Verse 10: Ye are My witnesses, saith יְהוָה - the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He; before Me there was no אֱלֹהִים formed, neither shall any be after Me.
Explanation: Israel’s very survival is the “evidence” in the world's courtroom that אֱלֹהִים = God is the only true Power.
Verse
11: I, even I, am יְהוָה - the LORD; and beside Me there is
no saviour.
Verse 12: I have
declared, and I have saved, and I have announced, and there was no strange god
among you; therefore ye are My witnesses, saith יְהוָה - the LORD, and I am אֱלֹהִים.
Explanation: אֱלֹהִים emphasizes His exclusivity. Salvation comes from no other source.
Verse 13: Yea, since the day was I am He; and there is none that can deliver out of My hand; I will work, and who can reverse it?
Explanation: When אֱלֹהִים decides to act, no human or spiritual force can “undo” His decree.
Verse 14: Thus saith the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and I will bring down all of them as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships of their rejoicing.
Explanation: אֱלֹהִיםpromises to break the power of Babylon specifically for the benefit of His people.
Verse
15: I am יְהוָה - the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.
Verse 16: Thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD, who maketh a way in the
sea, and a path in the mighty waters;
Verse 17: Who bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the
power, they lie down together, they shall not rise; they are extinct, they are
quenched as a wick.
Explanation: Reminiscent of the Red Sea. The same אֱלֹהִים who destroyed Pharaoh’s chariots will destroy the oppressors of the exile.
Verse
18: Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Verse 19: Behold,
I will do a new thing; now shall it spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will
even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Explanation: אֱלֹהִים tells them not to dwell only on the past miracles (the Exodus), because the new miracle (the return from Babylon) will be even more astounding.
Verse
20: The beasts of the field shall honour Me, the
jackals and the ostriches; because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers
in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen;
Verse 21: The
people which I formed for Myself, that they might tell of My praise.
Explanation: Even nature recognizes אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s provision for His chosen people.
Verse
22: Yet thou hast not called upon Me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of Me,
O Israel.
Verse 23: Thou
hast not brought Me the small cattle of thy
burnt-offerings; neither hast thou honoured Me with
thy sacrifices. I have not burdened thee with a meal-offering, nor wearied thee
with frankincense.
Verse 24: Thou
hast bought Me no sweet cane with money, neither hast
thou filled Me with the fat of thy sacrifices; but thou hast burdened Me with
thy sins, thou hast wearied Me with thine iniquities.
Explanation: A gentle rebuke. Israel had become tired of the service of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, yet אֱלֹהִים - Elohim remained faithful.
Verse 25: I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake; and thy sins I will not remember.
Explanation: Forgiveness is a gift given “for His sake”,to demonstrate His mercy, not because it was earned.
Verse 26: Put Me in remembrance, let us plead together; set thou forth thy cause, that thou mayest be justified.
Explanation: An invitation to prayer. אֱלֹהִים - Elohim asks Israel to state their case, inviting a dialogue.
Verse
27: Thy first father sinned, and thy intercessors have transgressed against Me.
Verse 28:
Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and I have given Jacob
to condemnation, and Israel to reviling.
Explanation: A reminder that the exile was a result of past failures, but the chapter ends with the understanding that this judgment is not the final word.

My Closing
Message:
Isaiah 43 teaches us that our history is not a series of accidents, but a journey directed by the One who formed us. Even when we are “weary” (Verse 22), אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is not weary of us. He promises to “blot out” the past to make room for a “new thing”. May this chapter bring you strength and light!
