Remember the following truth
from our beloved Torah!
“Ye
shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may
keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy
4:2. (JPS-1917).

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.
You might think that picking up
the Tanakh and flipping through its pages would automatically reveal its
messages perfectly; yes. it is the word of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God) is intended for all
people, Hebrews or Gentiles. However, while the Five Books of the Torah
contains the most Sacred and Divine text. Its depths are layered and it can be
at times complex, making it more than just a simple read. But do not lose hope!
The beauty of the Torah as well as all of the Tanakh, is that it is
accessible to everyone for free, and it is at their own level. Yes it is freely
available from the web, such as the brilliant “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917 version). The JPS download page (Link) is available down the page.
The key lies in developing your
ability to engage, and work with the text meaningfully. This process isn’t
instinctive; it requires ‘faith’, ‘practice’ and yes, ‘guidance’, and that is
always available, be it from your rabbi, or contacting myself.
hebraicstudies.net is dedicated to nurturing a deep and insightful approach to Torah
learning. At all times we need to be inspired by a spirit of reverent
curiosity, and a meticulous attention to the text, and an ‘unquenchable thirst
for spiritual’ understanding. Much like mastering a craft,
whatever that may be. Through consistent practice, these foundational
skills will blend together, allowing for moments of profound insight and
understanding!

A suitable Prayer before reading the Torah:
בָּרוּךְ
אַתָּה יְיָ
אֱלֹהֵינוּ
מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם,
אֲשֶׁר
קִדְּשָׁנוּ
בְּמִצְוֹתָיו
וְצִוָּנוּ
לַעֲסוֹק
בְּדִבְרֵי
תוֹרָה
“Baruch atah, Adonai Eloheinu, Melech haolam, asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu laasok b'divrei Torah”.
“Blessed are
You, LORD our Eloheinu, King of the universe, who has
sanctified us with His Commandments and commanded us to engage in the words of
Torah”.
