Re Tanakh versions:
Throughout this site I may use any of three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish
Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2. “Mechon-Mamre.org” (MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org” (SEF), three brilliant versions, However, the
JPS-1917 is my preferred version!
Colour coded
details of our beloved TaNaKh:
1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.
*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical
books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job, the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song of Solomon, Ruth,
Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, prophecy of
Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles I & II.
Please Note: Some
alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’
of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, having been corrected like it
once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our
beloved Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which
I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM
IT, that ye may keep the commandments of אֱלֹהֵיכֶם יְהוָה - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.
The ‘Hashkiveinu’ - הַשְׁכִּיבֵנוּ prayer serves as a plea for Divine protection, safety, and peace during the vulnerable hours of sleep.
‘Hashkiveinu’ is a traditional
Hebrew evening prayer
recited daily during the Ma’ariv (evening) service, or as part of our bedtime prayers. Its primary purpose is to ask אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God), בָּרוּךְ-הוּא - Blessed be He, for ‘protection’, ‘guidance’,
and a ‘peaceful night’s rest’, as well as a ‘safe awakening’ the following day.
It serves as
a plea for ‘Divine protection’, ‘safety’, and ‘peace’ during the vulnerable hours of our sleep.

“Grant us, O יְהוָה, that we lie down in peace, and raise us up, our Guardian, to life renewed. Spread over us the shelter of Your peace. Guide us with Your good counsel; for Your Name’s sake, be our help. Shield and shelter us beneath the shadow of Your wings. Defend us against ‘enemies’, ‘illness’, ‘war’, ‘famine’ and ‘sorrow’. Distance us from wrongdoing. For You, יְהוָה, watch over us and deliver us. For יְהוָה, are ‘gracious’ and ‘merciful’. Guard our going and coming, to life and to peace evermore”. Amen.
Please, if you have not done this, why not
commence now and say the beautiful ‘Hashkivenu’ prayer prior to
going to bed!
