Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command youNEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

 “Ezra the Priest”

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Ezra the Priest and Scribe worked so hard restoring the Law:

Ezra, is also known as “Ezra the Scribe”, and he was an important Hebraic priest as well as a Scribe during the early ‘Second Temple’ period. He played a crucial role in restoring the Jewish scriptures and religion to the people after the Babylonian Captivity. Ezra is highly respected throughout Judaism.

His legacy includes preserving the Hebrew identity and religious practice.

Ezra’s influence extends beyond his time, inspiring believers to remain committed to  אֱלֹהִים- Elohim’s (God’s) Word.

The Life of Ezra according to the Tanakh:

In the Tanakh, Ezra emerges as a significant figure in the books of ‘Ezra’ and ‘Nehemiah’. He is attributed to both writing and editing these books, as well as the Books of ‘Chronicles’ and the ‘Book of Malachi’. Ezra’s role in reintroducing the Torah to our people after their long exile is paramount.

“For Ezra had set his heart to seek the law of יְהוָה - the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and ordinances”. Ezra 7:10. (JPS).

The account of Ezra’s life in the Tanakh serves as a testament to his unwavering faith and his commitment to preserving Hebraic traditions and teachings. His contributions to the Torah and the revitalization of our blessed faith, remains an essential part of our narrative.

Ezra, with his steadfast dedication, as we have read, played a pivotal role in reviving the Mitzvoth - Law and restoring our beloved religious practices to our former glory.

Recognizing the significance of the Torah, Ezra zealously enforced its observance among the Law. In his unwavering pursuit of preserving our identity, Ezra emphasized the importance of following the Torah’s commandments. He firmly established the boundaries that would protect the our people from intermarrying with those of different religions, reinforcing their commitment to their heritage!

Ezra’s reforms were not only rooted in tradition but also aimed to rejuvenate the spiritual essence of the Hebraic community. By restoring our original religious practices and upholding the sanctity of the Law, he spearheaded a revival that breathed new life into the nation’s spiritual fabric!
