A Brief Introduction:
This study is somewhat different than my other studies, for this time I commence with six chapters and relevant verses, this in order to lay the foundation of what will be covered below!
Please Note: All verses within this study are from the JPS-1917 version of the Torah!

Let us first read Shemot - Exodus Chapter 3, verses 13 to 15: The Ivrit -Hebrew version is first, followed by the translation!
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-הָאֱלֹהִים, הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי בָא אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְאָמַרְתִּי לָהֶם, אֱלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם שְׁלָחַנִי אֲלֵיכֶם; וְאָמְרוּ-לִי מַה-שְּׁמוֹ, מָה אֹמַר אֲלֵהֶם
וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה; וַיֹּאמֶר, כֹּה תֹאמַר לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֶהְיֶה, שְׁלָחַנִי אֲלֵיכֶם

Let us now read Shemot - Exodus Chapter
9, verse 16:
וְאוּלָם, בַּעֲבוּר זֹאת הֶעֱמַדְתִּיךָ, בַּעֲבוּר, הַרְאֹתְךָ אֶת-כֹּחִי; וּלְמַעַן סַפֵּר שְׁמִי, בְּכָל-הָאָרֶץ
“But in very deed for this cause have I made thee to stand, to show thee My power, and that My Name may be declared throughout all the earth”.
We will now read Shemot -
Exodus Chapter 20, verse 20:
מִזְבַּח אֲדָמָה, תַּעֲשֶׂה-לִּי, וְזָבַחְתָּ עָלָיו אֶת-עֹלֹתֶיךָ וְאֶת-שְׁלָמֶיךָ, אֶת-צֹאנְךָ וְאֶת-בְּקָרֶךָ; בְּכָל-הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר אַזְכִּיר אֶת-שְׁמִי, אָבוֹא אֵלֶיךָ וּבֵרַכְתִּיךָ
“An altar of earth thou shalt make unto Me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen; in every place where I cause My Name to be mentioned I will come unto thee and bless thee”.
Let us now read Shemot - Be’midbar - Numbers Chapter 6, verse
27:
וְשָׂמוּ אֶת-שְׁמִי, עַל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַאֲנִי, אֲבָרְכֵם
“So shall they put My Name upon the children

Next we read Shemot -
Exodus Chapter 4, verse 2:
לֹא תֹסִפוּ, עַל-הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוֶּה אֶתְכֶם, וְלֹא תִגְרְעוּ, מִמֶּנּוּ-לִשְׁמֹר, אֶת-מִצְוֺת יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי, מְצַוֶּה אֶתְכֶ
“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your אֱלֹהִים which I command you”.
Finally we will read Devarim - Deuteronomy
Chapter 5, verses 28-29.
וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם לַעֲשׂוֹת, כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֶתְכֶם: לֹא תָסֻרוּ, יָמִין וּשְׂמֹאל
בְּכָל-הַדֶּרֶךְ, אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֶתְכֶם-תֵּלֵכוּ: לְמַעַן תִּחְיוּן, וְטוֹב לָכֶם, וְהַאֲרַכְתֶּם יָמִים, בָּאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר תִּירָשׁוּן
“Ye shall observe to do therefore as יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloheichem hath commanded you; ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. Ye shall walk in all the way which יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloheichem hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess”.

The above verses trace the unfolding story of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim revealing His personal Name, proving His supreme power over earthly rulers, testing His people with Holy fear, placing His Name upon them through blessing, using an ordinary staff to show His might, and desiring a lasting heart of obedience.
The Unfolding Story:
Identity
and Presence (Exodus 3:13-15): Moses asks אֱלֹהִים for His Name at the
burning bush, and אֱלֹהִים reveals Himself as “I AM WHO I AM”, establishing a personal, eternal covenant relationship with His
people.
Power and Purpose (Exodus 9:16): אֱלֹהִים tells Pharaoh through Moses that He raised him up not to destroy him immediately, but to display His ultimate power and make His Name known across the whole earth.
Holy Fear (Exodus 20:20): At Mount Sinai, Moses tells the trembling people not to fear in a way that drives them away, but to hold a proper, reverent awe of אֱלֹהִים that keeps them from sinning.
The Ordinary Instrument (Exodus 4:2): אֱלֹהִים asks Moses a simple question looking at what is in his hand, a basic shepherd’s staff, transforming an ordinary tool into the instrument of His miraculous power. However, there is one mighty statement by Elohim - “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloheichem which I command you”, yet our leaders, priests and rabbis completely disobeyed this blessed commandment!
The Blessing
of His Name (Numbers 6:27): אֱלֹהִים commands the priests to
put His Divine Name upon the children of
A Heart to Obey (Deuteronomy 5:28–29): אֱלֹהִים hears the words of the people and expresses a deep desire that they would always maintain this same heart of reverence to obey His commandments and go well with them forever.

The
Hook: We often search for
identity, purpose, and direction in life using our own strength.
The
Conflict: Moses felt
inadequate, Pharaoh resisted, and
The Big Idea: אֱלֹהִים reveals His personal Name to assure us of His presence, uses ordinary things to demonstrate His power, and calls for a heart of reverent obedience.

Reveals His Personal
Presence:
A
Sovereign Identity: In Exodus
3:13–15, אֱלֹהִים
reveals Himself as “I AM
WHO I AM”. He is
self-existent, eternal, and deeply personal. He is not a distant force but the אֱלֹהִים of our
history.
A Shield of Blessing: In Numbers 6:27, אֱלֹהִים instructs the priests to place this specific, Holy Name upon His people.
Key Takeaway: To carry אֱלֹהִים’s Name is to carry His ownership, His protection, and His promise of blessing wherever we go.
2. The
Power: אֱלֹהִים
Empowers the Ordinary:
An
Ordinary Instrument: In Exodus
4:2, אֱלֹהִים asks
Moses a simple question: “What is that in your hand?” Moses holds a common shepherd’s staff, which אֱלֹהִים
transforms into a tool for miracles.
An Overruled Adversary: In Exodus 9:16, אֱלֹהִים reveals that even the most powerful earthly rulers (like Pharaoh) are subject to His sovereignty. Pharaoh was raised up specifically to show אֱלֹהִים’s power across the earth.
Key Takeaway: אֱלֹהִים does not need extraordinary resources. He takes our ordinary availability and overrules worldly powers to make His glory known.
3. The Heart: אֱלֹהִים Desires Reverent Obedience:
The
Purpose of Holy Fear: In Exodus
20:20, Moses tells the
trembling Israelites at
The Desire of the Creator: In Deuteronomy 5:28-29, אֱלֹהִים hears the people’s promises of obedience and longs for it to be permanent. He expresses a deep desire: “Oh, that they would always have such a heart as this...”.
Key Takeaway: אֱלֹהִים does not want temporary emotional reactions or forced compliance. He wants a lasting heart of worship that leads to obedience.

The Conclusion:
Summary: אֱלֹהִים has given us His blessed Name to trust His Power to rely on, and
obey His Word.
Call to Action: Look at what is currently in your hand. Surrender it to the “I AM”, step out in Holy reverence rather than worldly fear, and cultivate a heart that seeks to please Him daily!
