Elohim’s-Name

Please do NOT visit this site on שַׁבָּת - Shabbat or on the מוֹעֲדִים - Mo’a’dim - Feasts!

Re Tanakh versions:

Throughout this site I may use any of three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2. “Mechon-Mamre.org” (MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org” (SEF), three brilliant versions, However, the JPS-1917 is my preferred version!

Colour coded details of our beloved TaNaKh:

1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.

*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job, the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, prophecy of Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles I & II.

Please Note: Some alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’ of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God), having been corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of אֱלֹהֵיכֶם יְהוָה - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

Sadly, as this study proves that human’s priests and rabbis have made disgraceful alteration’s by removing אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s blessed Name, and replacing it with אֱלֹהִים and ‘God’ in the translation. I have proof further down the page.

“Elohim’s Name”

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Elohim is one of the most frequently used as an attribute for the Almighty, but it is not a name, but His Attribute, of ‘who and what He is’. Yet Elohim is all ‘powerful’, ‘majestic’, and the ‘sovereign over all creation’.

בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ׃

“In the beginning אֱלֹהִים created the heaven and the earth”. Genesis 1:1. (JPS-1917 version).

This opening verse reveals that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim being the Creator of everything. The use of this title at the very start of the Torah is no accident. It points us to אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s ‘power’, ‘greatness’, and ‘authority’ over the universe from the very beginning!

When you call on אֱלֹהִים, you’re calling on ‘He who created the stars’, ‘who holds the oceans in His hands’, and ‘who formed you with purpose and care’. He is not ‘distant’ or ‘indifferent’. He is powerful enough to create the universe, yet personal enough to be involved in every detail of your life.

But when was the actual Name of אֱלֹהִים revealed in our Torah? Let us look at the scriptures.

“And אֱלֹהִים said moreover unto Moses: ‘Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: יְהוָה - the LORD, the אֱלֹהִים of your fathers, the אֱלֹהִים of Abraham, the אֱלֹהִים of Isaac, and the אֱלֹהִים of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is My Name for ever, and this is My Memorial unto all generations”.

Thus we now have אֱלֹהִים actual Name, being יְהוָה - בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ - ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

However, sadly, certain evil ones priests and rabbis who Elohim cursed for not respecting His Name, for they actually removed the blessed Name of יְהוָה and disgracefully replaced it in the Hebrew with אֱלֹהִים and ‘God’ in the translation. You can check this for yourselves by looking at Psalms 53 and 56, although there sadly are other cases.

Below is how יְהוָה - the LORD took care of these offenders: Malachi Chapter 2:1-3. (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).

“And now, this commandment is for you, O ye priests. If ye will not hearken, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto My Name, saithיְהוִה הַצְּבָאוֹת - the LORD of Ha’tz’va’ot (Hosts), then will I send the curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings; yea, I curse them, because ye do not lay it to heart. Behold, I will rebuke the seed for your hurt, and will spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your sacrifices; and ye shall be taken away unto it”.

It is vital that we use אֱלֹהִים’s blessed Name with great Sanctity and only whilst in prayer, or during Torah studies or whilst teaching our blessed Torah.
