Please do NOT visit this site on שַׁבָּת - Shabbat or on the מוֹעֲדִים - Mo’a’dim - Feasts!

Tanakh versions:

Throughout this site I use any of the following three versions of the Tanakh1. Jewish Publication Society (JPS-1917), 2. Mechon-Mamre.org” (MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org” (SEF), three brilliant versions!

Colour coded details of our beloved TaNaKh:

1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.

*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job, the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, prophecy of Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles I & II.

Please Note: Some alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’ of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, having been corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

However, sadly both priests and rabbis broke אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s command’s and made countless alterations, just check Tehillim - Psalms 53, where they removed the sacred Name of יְהוָה - the LORD, and replaced it with אֱלֹהִים both in Hebrew as well as in the English translation. This was, and still is an utter disgrace, and they shall be severly punished for their evil!

 “Davarim-Deuteronomy Chapter 11”

Part Two..

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Introduction:

The second half of the chapter shifts from reflection to decision. Moshe - Moses presents Israel with a stark choice: a blessing or a curse. The covenant is not theoretical - it demands a response. As Israel prepares to enter the promised land, Moses wants them to understand that their future will be shaped by their allegiance to אֱלֹהִים- Elohim (God).

Let us read Davarim - Deuteronomy Chapter 11:22-32: (JPS-1917 version of the Torah).

22 For if ye shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloheichem, to walk in all His ways, and to cleave unto Him, 23 then will יְהוָה - the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves. 24 Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the hinder sea shall be your border. 25 There shall no man be able to stand against you: יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloheichem shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as He hath spoken unto you. 26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: 27 the blessing, if ye shall hearken unto the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Elohrichem, which I command you this day; 28 and the curse, if ye shall not hearken unto the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloheichem, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. 29 And it shall come to pass, when יָהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ - the LORD thy Eloheicha shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt set the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal30 Are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites that dwell in the Arabah, over against Gilgal, beside the terebinths of Moreh31 For ye are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloheichem giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein. 32 And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day.

The next section emphasizes:

‘Diligent obedience’, ‘אֱלֹהִים- Elohim’s promise to drive out nations’, ‘the vastness of the land אֱלֹהִים- Elohim intends to give’, ‘the choice between blessing and curse, a future ceremony on Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal’, it’s a moment of covenant clarity!

My Commentary:

1. Obedience Leads to Strength and Victory (vv. 22-25):

Moses promises that if Israel carefully keeps אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s commands:

They will be strong.

They will possess the land.

No one will stand against them.

אֱלֹהִים will place fear of them on surrounding nations.

This is not militaristic bravado, it’s covenant assurance. Their success is tied to אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s presence, not their own might.

2. The Land’s Boundaries (v. 24):

Moses describes the land stretching:

From the wilderness.

To Lebanon.

From the Euphrates.

To the Mediterranean Sea.

This is the fullest extent of the promised territory. It’s a reminder that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s vision for Israel is expansive, even if they will only gradually take possession of it.

3. The Choice Between Blessing and Curse (vv. 26-28):

Moses lays out two paths:

Blessing for obedience.

Curse for turning to other gods.

This is covenant clarity at its sharpest.  אֱלֹהִים- Elohim  is not coercive, He presents the options and invites Israel to choose life.

4. The Ceremony at Gerizim and Ebal (vv. 29-30):

When Israel enters the land, they are to hold a covenant-renewal ceremony:

Blessings proclaimed from Mount Gerizim.

Curses proclaimed from Mount Ebal.

This physical enactment will anchor the covenant in their memory.

The mountains themselves become symbols of choice.

5. The Final Exhortation (v. 32):

Moses ends by urging them to carefully obey all the statutes and ordinances. The chapter closes with the same theme it began with: obedience rooted in love and loyalty.

My Closing Message:

Deuteronomy 11:22–32 confronts us with the reality that faith is not passive. אֱלֹהִים invites His people into a relationship that shapes their destiny. The choice between blessing and curse is not a threat but an invitation, a reminder that אֱלֹהִים desires their flourishing. As with Israel, our lives are shaped by the voices we listen to and the loyalties we keep. Moses’ final words echo across time: Choose the path of obedience, and you will walk in the life אֱלֹהִים offers.
