Re Tanakh versions:

Throughout this site I may use any of the following three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2“Mechon-Mamre.org (MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org (SEF), three brilliant versions, although JPS-1917 is my preferred version!

Colour coded details of our beloved TaNaKh:

1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.

*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job, the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, prophecy of Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles I & II.

Please Note: Some alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’ of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, having been corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

“The Path of Growth in Torah

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Introduction:

There are moments in life when the past returns to us not as memory, but as a gift. Recently, I rediscovered a note I had written many years ago, back in 2002, when I was a younger rabbi filled with strength and clarity. Over the years, illness and hardship caused many things to slip from my hands, including this teaching.

Finding it again felt like hearing my own voice from another time, a voice that still speaks truth, even after all that has changed.

I decided to share it once more, not as something new, but as something renewed. Words written in youth can gain a deeper resonance when revisited through the lens of experience, struggle, and faith. What follows is a teaching that once flowed from my heart with ease, and now returns to me with greater depth and tenderness.

The Teaching:

יְהוָה - the Eternal One is the Creator of all that exists, and in His boundless compassion He gifted us the blessed Torah as a guide for our growth.
Within the Torah lies a complete system for human refinement. Every ‘mitzvah’, every ‘guideline’, every ‘boundary’ is a tool placed lovingly in our hands, designed to elevate us and draw us closer to Him.

Some of these tools are immediately understood; others reveal their depth only after years of study, reflection, and lived experience. Yet the fullness of the path is right before us. Nothing essential is missing. The Torah is not a puzzle to be solved but a journey to be walked!

When a person embraces the mitzvot, when they allow the Divine structure to shape their days and their choices, they place themselves upon the ‘right path’. Not a ‘path of perfection’, but a ‘path of becoming’. A path where every moment on this earth becomes an opportunity to ‘grow in Him’, to ‘refine the soul’, and to ‘deepen our beloved faith’!

This is the gift of Torah, not a ‘guarantee’, but a ‘direction’. Not a promise of ‘ease’, but a promise of ‘meaning’. Through its teachings we slowly perfect ourselves, ‘step by step’, ‘breath by breath’, guided by the One who formed us and knows the potential within us!

My Closing Message:

As you will have gathered that the teaching above was born in my youth, lost through hardship, and rediscovered this day in a moment of grace, reminding us that the path of Torah is never linear. We walk it with strength at times, and with fragility at others, yet the path remains steady beneath our feet. Even when we forget our own words, the Eternal One does not forget us. Even when illness or struggle dims our clarity, the light of Torah continues to shine, waiting patiently for us to return.

May every step we take, whether ‘bold’ or ‘trembling’, draw us closer to the One who guides us. And may the rediscovery of this teaching be a blessing, a reminder that growth is always possible, that faith can be renewed, and that the words we speak in sincerity can accompany us far longer than we ever imagined.

May the Eternal grant us strength to continue walking this sacred path, with ‘humility’, with ‘courage’, and with a ‘heart open to His wisdom’!

This site was originally created, for those who desired to return to our blessed and wonderful faith. Thus be wise and work on your faith and pray at least two or three times a day (if possible) and always seek our beloved אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s guidance, for His love is always with us, especially when we seek Him, blessed be He! However this site has become very much a teaching site with hundreds of studies!

Return unto Me, and I will return unto you, saith צְבָאוֹת- יְהוָה- the LORD of hostsMal’a’chi - Malachi 3:7. (JPS).
