Please do NOT visit this site on שַׁבָּת - Shabbat or on the מוֹעֲדִים Mo’a’dim - Feasts!

Re Tanakh versions:

Throughout this site I may use any of the following three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2“Mechon-Mamre.org (MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org (SEF), three brilliant versions, although JPS-1917 is my preferred version!

Colour coded details of our beloved TaNaKh:

1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.

*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job, the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, prophecy of Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles I & II.

Please Note: Some alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’ of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, having been corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!

Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

“Our Prayers

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.

Are you struggling to connect to אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim be it on the ‘Days of Awe’, or otherwise?

You may have asked, ‘How can I attain closeness with אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God) who is beyond my comprehension? Why would the Creator of the Universe care about my prayers? And is אֱלֹהִים - Elohim even listening? Especially on ‘Rosh Hashanah’ and ‘Yom Kippur’?

One barrier some face in when in prayer is the feeling that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is so Holy that there are no grounds for connection between them. How could a limited, flawed human being possibly reach the beloved Creator, through our prayers? The question becomes even more poignant when our prayers are dealing with our very ‘human’, ‘messy life circumstances’. How can we relate these experiences to אֱלֹהִים - Elohim?

YYYYYYY

There may be an answer to what you may be asking for!

The Scriptural model for answering these questions could well be חַנָּה - “Channah” - ‘Hannah’, the mother of the prophet Shmuel - Samuel. Not only does אֱלֹהִים - Elohim answer Hannah’s “Song of Hannah” - “Shirat Chanah prayer for a son, I believe that we may find some very good guidance from her prayer. Thus take a deep dive into חַנָּה - “Hannah’s prayer” in the book of Samuel and explore the concepts of ‘holiness’, and ‘closeness’ with אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, for she had a wonderful manner of prayer”.

YYYYYYY

Let us read Shmuel - Samuel 1, Chapter 2, verses 1-10: (JPS1917 version of the Tanakh).

1. “And Hannah prayed, and said: ‘my heart exulteth in יְהוָה - the LORD, my horn is exalted in יְהוָה - the LORD; my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in Thy Salvation.

2. There is none Holy as יְהוָה - the LORD, for there is none beside Thee; neither is there any rock like our אֱלֹהִים - Elohim.

3. Multiply not exceeding proud talk; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth; for יְהוָה - the LORD is the אֱלֹהִים - Elohim of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.

4. The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

5. They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry have ceased; while the barren hath borne seven, she that had many children hath languished.

6. יְהוָה - the LORD killeth, and maketh alive; He bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

7. יְהוָה - the LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich; He bringeth low, He also lifteth up.

8. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, He lifteth up the needy from the dung-hill, to make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory; for the pillars of the earth are יְהוָה - the LORD’s, and He hath set the world upon them.

9. He will keep the feet of His holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for not by strength shall man prevail.

10. They that strive with יְהוָה - the LORD shall be broken to pieces; against them will He thunder in heaven; יְהוָה - the LORD will judge the ends of the earth; and He will give strength unto His king, and exalt the horn of His anointed’”.

My Closing Message:

Having read ‘Hannah’s’ wonderful prayer you will have discovered that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s loftiness is just the thing that makes a relationship with Him all the more attainable, and you will never doubt the power of prayer again!
