Remember the
following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which
I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM
IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2.
However, sadly both the later priests as well as our rabbis of long ago and of today have, and are shamefully disobeying this command of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ – ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

Introduction:
In Isaiah 62, the tone shifts from the mission of the Anointed One to the passionate advocacy of the prophet (or the Almighty Himself) for the restoration of Jerusalem. It is a chapter of Divine obsession; אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God) refuses to remain silent until Zion’s righteousness shines like a bright torch. The central theme is the re-marriage of God to His land, moving from a state of “Forsaken” to “Delight”, ensuring that Jerusalem becomes a praise in all the earth.

Let us read Yeshayahu
- Isaiah Chapter 62: (JPS-1917 version
of the Tanakh).
1. For Zion’s sake will I not hold My peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until
her triumph go forth as brightness, and her salvation as a torch that burneth.
2. And the nations shall see thy triumph,
and all kings thy glory; and thou shalt be called by
a new name, which the mouth of יְהוָה - the LORD shall mark out.
3. Thou shalt also
be a crown of beauty in the hand of יְהוָה - the LORD, and a royal diadem in the open hand of thy אֱלֹהִים - Elohim.
4. Thou shalt no
more be termed Forsaken, neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate;
but thou shalt be called, My
delight is in her, and thy land, Espoused; for יְהוָה - the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land
shall be espoused
5. For as a young man espouseth
a virgin, so shall thy sons espouse thee; and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy אֱלֹהִים
rejoice over thee
6. I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, they shall never hold their peace day nor night: ‘Ye
that are יְהוָה - the LORD’s remembrancers, take ye no rest,
7. and give Him no
rest, till He establish, and till He make Jerusalem a praise in the earth’.
8. יְהוָה - the LORD hath sworn by His right hand, and by the arm of His strength:
Surely I will no more give thy corn to be food for thine
enemies; and strangers shall not drink thy wine, for which thou hast laboured;
9. But they that have garnered it shall eat
it, and praise יְהוָה - the LORD, and they that have gathered it shall
drink it in the courts of My sanctuary.
10. Go through, go through the gates, clear
ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway, gather out the stones;
lift up an ensign over the peoples
11. Behold, יְהוָה - the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the earth: say ye to the
daughter of Zion: ‘Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, His reward is with
Him, and His recompense before Him’.
12. And they shall call them the holy people, the
redeemed of יְהוָה - the LORD; and thou shalt
be called Sought out, a city not forsaken.

Let us now check the ‘verse by verse’ Item with good explanations:
Verse 1: “For Zion’s sake will I not hold My peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest...”
Explanation: The speaker (Divine) expresses an unyielding commitment. There will be no “rest” until the redemption is visible to all.
Verse 2: “And the nations shall see thy righteousness... and thou shalt be called by a new name...”
Explanation: The restoration is not private; it is a global witness. The "new name" signifies a fundamental change in status and character bestowed by אֱלֹהִים.
Verse 3: “Thou shalt also be a crown of beauty in the hand of יְהוָה - the LORD...”
Explanation: Jerusalem is depicted as a royal ornament. Note that she is “in the hand”, suggesting אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s direct protection and display of His prize.
Verse 4: “Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken ... but thou shalt be called Hephzi-bah, and thy land Beulah...”
Explanation: A powerful linguistic reversal. Hephzi-bah (“My delight is in her”) and Beulah (“Espoused/Married”) replace the names of exile and shame.
Verse 5: “For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee...”
Explanation: This metaphor illustrates the deep, permanent bond between the people and their land, mirroring the joy of a bridegroom over his bride.
Verse 6: “I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem ... ye that are יְהוָה - the LORD’s remembrancers, take no rest”.
Explanation: אֱלֹהִים - appoints “watchmen” (intercessors) whose specific job is to “remind” אֱלֹהִים of His promises, praying without ceasing.
Verse 7: “And give Him no rest, till He establish, and till He make Jerusalem a praise in the earth”.
Explanation: An incredible invitation to persistent prayer, urging the people to be so bold as to “give אֱלֹהִים no rest” until the promise is fulfilled.
Verse 8: “יְהוָה - the LORD hath sworn by His right hand ... Surely I will no more give thy corn to be food for thine enemies”.
Explanation: A Divine oath. The era of being plundered by foreign invaders is over; the fruit of the labour will remain with the labourer.
Verse 9: “But they that have garnered it shall eat it, and praise יְהוָה - the LORD...”
Explanation: The harvest becomes an act of worship and a communal celebration within the courts of the Sanctuary.
Verse 10: “Go through, go through the gates, prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway...”
Explanation: A call to action. Obstacles (stones) must be removed to create a clear, grand path for the returning exiles.
Verse 11: “Behold, יְהוָה - the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the earth: ‘Say ye to the daughter of Zion: Behold, thy salvation cometh’...”
Explanation: The message is universal. The reward of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s labour (His people) accompanies Him as He returns to the city”.
Vese 12: Concludes as follows: “And they shall call them the holy people, the redeemed of יְהוָה - the LORD; and thou shalt be called “Sought out, a city not forsaken”.

My Closing Message:
Isaiah 62 serves as a reminder that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s silence is not absence.
The chapter transitions from the promise of restoration to the active demand for
it, calling upon “remembrancers” to hold אֱלֹהִים to His word. It concludes with the
beautiful assurance that the world will eventually recognize Israel as “The Holy People” and
Jerusalem as “A
City Not Forsaken”.
