Remember the
following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which
I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM
IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2.
However, sadly both the later priests as well as our rabbis of long ago and of today have, and are shamefully disobeying this command of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ – ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben

Foreword:
Isaiah 56 calls Israel to אֱלֹהִים- Elohim twice and to Sabbath faithfulness, it opens covenant membership to ‘eunuchs’ and ‘foreigners’ who keep ’s covenant, and warns negligent leaders to live ‘righteousness’, welcome the outsider, and expect אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s saving presence.
Introduction:
Isaiah 56 stands at the threshold of restoration: it links imminent salvation with present ethical responsibility, centers on Sabbath observance as communal fidelity, and radically includes those once thought excluded (eunuchs and foreigners). The chapter balances promise for the faithful and rebuke for leaders who fail their charge.

Let us now read Yeshayahu - Isaiah Chapter 56: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh.
1. Thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD: Keep ye
justice, and do righteousness; for My salvation is near to come, and My favour to be revealed.
2. Happy is the man that doeth this, and the
son of man that holdeth fast by it: that keepeth the sabbath
from profaning it, and keepeth his hand from doing
any evil.
3. Neither let the alien, that hath joined
himself to יְהוָה - the LORD, speak, saying:
‘יְהוָה - the LORD will surely separate me from His
people'; neither let the eunuch say: 'Behold, I am a dry tree.'
4. For thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD concerning the eunuchs that keep My sabbaths, and choose the things
that please Me, and hold fast by My covenant:
5. Even unto them will I give in My house and within My walls a monument and a memorial
better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting memorial, that
shall not be cut off.
6. Also the aliens, that
join themselves to יְהוָה - the LORD, to minister unto Him, and to love the
Name of יְהוָה - the LORD, to be His servants, every one that keepeth the Sabbath from profaning it, and holdeth fast by My covenant:
7. Even them will I bring to My holy mountain,
and make them joyful in My house of prayer; their burnt-offerings and their
sacrifices shall be acceptable upon Mine altar; for My house shall be called a
house of prayer for all peoples.
8. Saith אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה
the LORD Elohim
who gathereth the dispersed of Israel: Yet I will
gather others to him, beside those of him that are gathered.
9. All ye beasts of the field,
come to devour, yea, all ye beasts in the forest.
10. His watchmen are all blind, without
knowledge; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; raving, lying down, loving
to slumber.
11. Yea, the dogs are greedy, they know not
when they have enough; and these are shepherds that cannot understand; they all
turn to their own way, each one to his gain, one and all.
12. Come ye, I will fetch wine, and we will fill
ourselves with strong drink; and to-morrow shall be as this day, and much more
abundant’”

Let us now view the ‘verse by verse’ Item, followed by a brief explanation.
Verse 1.
Text: Thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD: Keep ye justice, and do righteousness; For My salvation is near to come, And My favour to be revealed.
Explanation: The prophetic summons ties justice and righteous action to the nearness of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s deliverance, salvation demands moral readiness, not mere expectation.
Verse 2.
Text: Happy is the man that doeth this, And the son of man that holdeth fast by it: That keepeth the Sabbath from profaning it, And keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
Explanation: Sabbath observance symbolizes covenantal loyalty; holiness is practical refraining from harm as well as ritual profanation.
Verse 3.
Text: Neither let the alien, That hath joined himself to יְהוָה - the LORD, speak, saying: ‘יְהוָה - the LORD will surely separate me from His people’; Neither let the eunuch say: ‘Behold, I am a dry tree.’
Explanation: Isaiah anticipates the fears of marginalized persons; he rejects exclusionary assumptions about belonging to אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s people.
Verse 4.
Text: For thus saith יְהוָה - the LORD Concerning the eunuchs that keep My Sabbaths, And choose the things that please Me, And hold fast by My covenant:
Explanation: Divine promise is based on faithful conduct those who honour אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s ways are recognized, regardless of social status.
Verse 5.
Text: Even unto them will I give in My house And within My walls a monument and a memorial Better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting memorial, That shall not be cut off.
Explanation: אֱלֹהִים offers an everlasting Name, a spiritual legacy surpassing biological lineage; inclusion becomes an enduring reality.
Verse 6.
Text: Also the aliens, that join themselves to יְהוָה - the LORD, to minister unto Him, And to love the Name of יְהוָה - the LORD, to be His servants, Every one that keepeth the Sabbath from profaning it, And holdeth fast by My covenant;
Explanation: Foreigners who commit to worship and covenant life are fully incorporated; worship in אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s house is open to all who are faithful.
Verse 7.
Text: Even them will I bring to My holy mountain, And make them joyful in My house of prayer: Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon Mine altar; For My house shall be called an house of prayer for all peoples.
Explanation: The temple becomes a house of prayer for all nations. sacrificial worship and prayer are universal, not ethnically restricted.
Verse 8.
Text: אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, which gathereth the outcasts of Israel, saith, Yet will I gather others to Him, beside those that are gathered unto him.
Explanation: Inclusion is אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s initiative, He gathers both Israel’s outcasts and additional peoples.
Verses 9–12.
Text (summary): Isaiah denounces complacent watchmen and leaders who are blind, greedy, and asleep; the people cry for help.
Explanation: The chapter closes with a sharp rebuke of leaders who fail their duty; prophetic hope requires faithful shepherding and justice in practice.

My Closing Message:
Practical charge: Let Sabbath, like fidelity shape daily ethics; welcome the outsider, defend the vulnerable, and expect אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s salvation to meet a people who live justice.
