Remember the
following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which
I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM
IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2.
However, sadly both the later priests as well as our rabbis of long ago and of today have, and are shamefully disobeying this command of אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim, בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁוֹ - ‘Baruch Shem Kadosho’ – ‘Blessed be His Holy Name!’

Introduction:
Yeshayahu - Isaiah chapter 55 is the ultimate invitation to spiritual sustenance. Following the promise of the eternal covenant in Chapter 54, the Prophet now calls out to all who “thirst”. It is a chapter that bridges the gap between human understanding and Divine wisdom, moving from the physical needs of a wandering people to the lofty, infallible nature of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God’s) Word.

Let us first read Yeshayahu - Isaiah Chapter 55: (JPS-1917 version of the Tanakh).
1. Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye for water, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your gain for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3. Incline your ear, and come unto Me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
4. Behold, I have given him for a witness to the peoples, a prince and commander to the peoples.
5. Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and a nation that knew not thee shall run unto thee; because of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ - the LORD thy Elohim, and for the Holy One of Israel, for He hath glorified thee.
6. Seek ye יְהוָה - the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near;
7. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts; and let him return unto יְהוָה - the LORD, and He will have compassion upon him, and to our אֱלֹהִים, for He will abundantly pardon.
8. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither
are your ways My ways, saith
יְהוָה - the LORD.
9. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
10. For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, except it water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, and give seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11. So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, except it accomplish that which I please, and make the thing whereto I sent it prosper.
12. For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to יְהוָה - the LORD for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Let us now check Isaiah Chapter 55 ‘verse by verse’ Item, with explanations.
Verse 1: Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Explanation: The “water” is a traditional metaphor for Torah. אֱלֹהִים offers spiritual nourishment that cannot be purchased with material wealth; it is accessible to the humble and the destitute alike.
Verse 2: Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your gain for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
Explanation: A rebuke against chasing worldly vanities. True satisfaction (the “fatness” of the soul) comes only from internalizing Divine instruction.
Verse 3: Incline your ear, and come unto Me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
Explanation: Life is found in “hearing” (Shema). אֱלֹהִים promises that the Davidic covenant, one of leadership and protection is now extended to the collective whole of the faithful.
Verse 4: Behold, I have given him for a witness to the peoples, a prince and commander to the peoples.
Explanation: This refers to the role of the Davidic line (and by extension, Israel) to serve as a moral compass and a witness of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s sovereignty to the entire world.
Verse 5: Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee; because of יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ - the LORD thy Elohim, and for the Holy One of Israel; for He hath glorified thee.
Explanation: The restoration of Israel will be so profound that foreign nations will be drawn to the light of the Truth emanating from Zion.
Verse 6: Seek ye יְהוָה - the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near.
Explanation: A vital call to Teshuvah (repentance). It suggests there are special windows of time, such as the High Holy Days or moments of personal awakening, where the Divine presence is exceptionally accessible.
Verse 7: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts; and let him return unto יְהוָה - the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our אֱלֹהִים, for He will abundantly pardon.
Explanation: Forgiveness is not begrudging; אֱלֹהִים "abundantly" pardons. The requirement is a dual change: of “way” (action) and “thought” (intention).
Verse 8: For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith יְהוָה - the LORD.
Explanation: A humbling reminder of the transcendence of the Creator. Human logic often cannot grasp the scale or the timing of Divine justice and mercy.
Verse 9: For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
Explanation: This reinforces the infinite gap between finite human perspective and infinite Divine wisdom.
Verse 10: For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, and giveth seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
Explanation: Nature is used as a proof of efficacy. Rain never falls “for nothing”; it always triggers growth.
Verse 11: So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth; it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Explanation: Just as rain must grow the seed, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s promises are laws of spiritual physics. If He has spoken of redemption, it is an absolute certainty.
Verse 12: For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Explanation: The “Exodus” from exile will be so harmonious that even the inanimate creation will seem to participate in the celebration.
Verse 13: Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress-tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle-tree; and it shall be to יְהוָה - the LORD for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
Explanation: A reversal of the curse of Eden. Where there was “thorns”
(pain/exile), there will be “myrtles” (fragrance/beauty), serving as an eternal
monument to אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s faithfulness.

My Closing Message:
There is no doubt that this chapter is the great “Open Door” of the Prophets. It reminds us that while אֱלֹהִים – Elohim’s thoughts are infinitely higher than ours, His Word is as tangible and reliable as the rain that waters the Australian (worlds) soil. May you find great “fatness of soul” in these blessed verses above!
