Re Tanakh versions:
Throughout this site I may use any of the
following three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2. “Mechon-Mamre.org”
(MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org”
(SEF), three brilliant versions, although JPS-1917 is my preferred version!

Remember the
following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye shall NOT ADD TO THE WORD which
I command you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM
IT, that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem,
which I command you”. Davarim - Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

Introduction:
Isaiah Chapter 12 serves as a brief but powerful hymn of thanksgiving, marking the conclusion of the first major section of the Book of Isaiah. After the prophet had some intense visions of ‘judgment’ and the ‘promise of a future’. This chapter shifts from ‘prophecy’ to ‘praise’. It envisions the day of ultimate redemption when us the Hebrew people, gathered from the four corners of the earth, turn our historical trauma into a song of eternal trust in אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim (God)!

Let
us read Chapter 12: verses 1 to 6, by Isaiah: (JPS-1917
version of the Tanakh). There is no doubt that
this is one of the shortest chapters around!
1. And in
that day thou shalt say: 'I will give thanks unto Thee, O יְהוָה
- LORD;
for though Thou was angry with me, Thine anger is turned away, and Thou comfortest me. 2. Behold, אֱלֹהִים
- Elohim is my Salvation; I will trust, and will not be
afraid; for אֱלֹהִים
- Elohim יְהוָה
- the
LORD is my strength and song; and He is become my Salvation.' 3. Therefore with joy shall ye draw
water out of the wells of Salvation. 4. And in that day shall ye say:
‘Give thanks unto יְהוָה
- the
LORD, proclaim His Name, declare His doings among the peoples, make mention
that His name is exalted. 5. Sing unto יְהוָה
- the
LORD; for He hath done gloriously; this is made known in all the earth. 6. Cry aloud and shout, thou

Let us look at a Commentary on Isaiah Chapter 12, Verses 1 to 6:
Verses 1-2: Personal Transformation. The passage begins with an individual declaration: “I will give thanks unto Thee, O יְהוָה - LORD”. It acknowledges a period of Divine anger that has now passed, replaced by comfort. The core message is Bitachon (absolute trust). By stating, “Behold, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid”, the prophet emphasizes that true strength (Oz) and song (Zimrat) come only from the Eternal.
Verse 3: The Source of Life. “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation”. Water is the universal symbol of life and Torah. In the prophetic context, this represents the spiritual rejuvenation of the nation. Joy is not just a by-product of redemption; it is the method by which we access the Divine flow.
Verses 4-6: Universal Proclamation. The focus shifts from the individual to the
collective. We the Hebraic people are commanded to make אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s deeds known among all the nations. The
“Exalted One” dwells in the midst of

My Closing Message:
This chapter teaches us that the goal of all
Hebrew history being the transformation of ‘fear’
into ‘faith’. We do not merely survive our challenges; we use
the lessons of our struggle to “sing unto יְהוָה
- the
LORD” with a renewed spirit. When we recognize the “wells of salvation” within our
own heritage, we find the strength to stand tall. May we soon see the day when
this song is sung by all of
