The Jews of Lublin in Poland and the evil Austrian
born Commander Odilo Globochnik
With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben-Avraham, PhD.
Adapted from my Dutch book; “Nederlandse Tsedaka”, which sold over a million copies.

Please Note: This page is about
our fellow Jews in Poland during the horrid and evil Holocaust. Parts of it is certainly harsh, but, but what we learn is
that there are those who were of such great faith they overcame their
enemy!
Part One - Israel and the Burning Bush:
B’Nai Israel (the Children of Israel), as
history has proven have suffered the hatred from so many nations from the very
time when Moshe - Moses stood before Elohim, blessed be His
Sanctified Name, at the burning bush. And we know this to be true, for even as
he was standing in the presence of Elohim, Pharaoh was already pursuing a plan
to exterminate all of the Children of Israel. But whilst Moshe saw the bush
ablaze with the presence of Elohim and He gave him a message with a promise.
Believe me all nations better take note of that event because they will be
punished again.
As Moshe watched, he saw the bush burn with fire, yet, it was not
consumed, for Elohim (through the Angel of Elohim) was
in the midst of the bush! Moshe was taught that He would be used to
emancipate Israel from slavery out of Egypt, even whilst they
were being persecuted; “ablaze with fire” Israel would
never be consumed nor exterminated for our Heavenly Father would be “in
the midst of His people,” as He was “in the burning bush.”
Whilst the fire of “the Holocaust” was tragically consuming so
many of our Jewish brethren throughout Nazi Europe, an astonishing event took
place in Lublin, Poland.
The City of Lublin was famed for being a city of great Jewish
learning and it was from there comes this true amazing and heroic story of
faith!
How Strong is Our Faith?
The following story is one of an event that occurred in Lublin and it certainly gives all
of us a glimpse of the great determination and the faith the Jews
of Lublin had! I will always believe that their kind of faith will
always remain with us in various measures especially when times and days are
tough. I pray that this story will touch you and strengthen you to have that
kind of Faith; one that pleases Elohim, blessed is He!
To see such a strong faith in action in the face of great horror and death
must challenge anyone and it should lead us to question ourselves, “Will
my faith be that strong in the face of danger? Will I stand on what I believe
in, or will I deny my Elohim in order to escape death?”
A View of the old part Jewish of Lublin
by Leon Wyczolkowski
The Evil Commander:
Storm trooper
Commander Globochnik was a
well-known notorious Sadistic murderer throughout Poland and he had
been entrusted with the fate of the Jews of Lublin. One of the first things he
did was to call an assembly for all the Yidden of the city. Any who refused to come would be shot
dead on the spot. Not knowing their fate, they came to an abandoned field just
on the outskirts of the city. High barbed wire fences surrounded this barren
field. Guards stood around with machine guns and others with whips at the ready
in their wicked hands hoping they could use them as soon as possible.
Globochnik gangs
had already attacked the Jews of Lublin at the Great Yeshiva and they attacked
not just the building, but also the sacred books and the blessed Torah Scrolls,
which were all burned and destroyed, whilst the faithful rabbis had to look on,
and then with them trembling they were also marched to the field on the
outskirts of Lublin not knowing what would befall them, for they would surely
die.
After a long yet a
threatening time waiting for something to happen, it was with great suddenness
that the armed guards formed a double line, with guns at the ready all aimed
directly at our fellow Yidden in middle of the field and they stood there
waiting the end to come as they prayed to Elohim!
Heading to the field
Then suddenly from
behind these two lines, without warning, Globochnik stepped forward
and he absolutely looked delighted with himself, thinking he had invented a
nice new and ingenious torture, just as if he was thinking, “Well I have
scared these filthy Jews to death, look at them some almost
“--did it--” in their pants! They actually thought they were about
to die, no I will stretch that out as long as I can, but die they will!”
His troops were
well used to him inflicting brutal and mental torture upon the Yidden and they
simply loved it! They stood impatiently by for their orders that would surely
come in due course to go and beat their brains in and slaughter each and every
one of them for that was their joy and their reward! Odilo Globochnik was in such high spirits, laughing uncontrollably.
His laughter curdled the blood of all the poor Yidden together, who were
waiting, and waiting for what was going to happen, for this evil man seemed to
be completely mad!
Then suddenly he
screeched;
“Sing, Jews, sing! I want
you to sing a happy song! Yes, sing a Chassidic ditty!”
However, the Jews
of Lublin remained silent. “Is this all this madman wants from
us?” they asked themselves.
How could these
poor people in mortal fear of their very lives bring themselves to sing a happy
Chassidic song for these murderous barbarians? They were unable to open their
mouths whilst in such fear.
Globochnik was
not too happy, for he demanded they sing, so he yelled like a madman possessed;
“Attack those stubborn Jews!
Beat them with all your might, show them no mercy!”
The guards happily
followed Globochnik’s order, their
ruthlessness matched only by their vehemence. As they came hitting and pushing,
the Jews were forced back against the barbed wire. The Barbs on the fence tore
and even shredded some of their flesh, pricking their very beings, and blood
began to flow from their bodies and faces. They huddled closely together,
stumbling, and falling as more, and more guards came against them, beating, and
beating. Many were trampled under foot, as the confusion of a new wave of
retreating people was pushed back.
Then again came that hideous voice of Globochnik;
“Sing, you arrogant Jews, sing, or you will
die! Attack them; force them against the wire. Gunners, aim your machine guns.
Sing you dirty Jews or die!”
Suddenly, a
cracking melancholy voice broke the silence. It was the voice of a man crushed
amongst these frightened ones.
He began to sing a
Chassidic folk song in which this faithful Yid poured his soul before his
Elohim, the Elohim of Avraham, Yitzchak - Isaac, and
of Ya’aqov - Jacob.
But look these
were the lyrics he sang …
“Lomir Zich Iberbeiten, Avinu Shebashamayim, Lomir Zich Iberbeiten”
“Let us be reconciled, Heavenly
father, Let us be Reconciled.”
In Ivrit and transliterated it would be:
נִתְפַּיֵּס,
אָבִינוּ
שֶׁבַּשָּׁמַיִם,
נִתְפַּיֵּס - “Nitpayes, Avinu Shebashamayim, Nitpayes”.
But nobody joined
him and the singing stopped. Then after what seemed to be like hours, but
then the same tune broke forth again. Somebody else
had started to sing. It was the same melody, but this time the words were
different.
This one solitary
voice in this downtrodden crowd became the representative of all the Jews
in Lublin and the world
for that matter. He composed new lyrics on the spot.
He composed lyrics based on the promises as given to Israel by hwhy Elohim, blessed be His
Sanctified Name, in the blessed Tanakh.
Suddenly it became
a sea of voices that bellowed forth, joining in what seemed to be an impossible
dream. Feet were now stamping, arms were locked, and the Jews
of Lublin sang and they danced in joyful and spiritual harmony!
They sang and sang
the following words in Yiddish;
“Mir Velen Zey Iberleben, Avinu Shebashamayim, Mir Velen Zey Iberleben”
“We shall out-live them, Heavenly
Father, we shall out-live them!”
At
first Globochnik was delighted, however, suddenly he realised there
was something wrong, as he saw their glowing enthusiasm, and suddenly he
stumbled upon their secret “This is not how a humiliated people
behave?” In their song and dance, the Jews of Lublin forgot
all their pain, all their suffering, humiliation, and despair. They had even
forgotten the presence of that monster Odilo Globochnik himself.
“Stop you
… Jews! Stop singing, stop dancing! - STOP now!” he yelled.
“Attack” Globochnik ordered his ever-willing
soldiers. But the Jews of Lublin kept on singing and dancing …
“Mir Velen Zey Iberleben, Avinu Shebashamayim - We shall out-live them, Heavenly Father."
Very rapidly, the now screening
Globochnik ordered a violent attack the Jews of Lublin, and
they were beaten mercilessly. However, the Jews of Lublin just kept on
singing as long as they were able, thus they defied their oppressors to the
very end! Sadly there was just a single one of the Yidden of Lublin that
survived the horror of that day, and ‘Yankel’
told me, as well as the world this amazing story. And on
that dreadful day and as we know from our long
history B’Nei Yisroel will “out-live them!”

Just look at that happy Nazi on the right.
Part Two - The Promise of
Elohim to Israel!
Blessed be hwhy Elohim, Israel has
out-lived the rage and all who have come against them and us, over the
centuries! As for those who have persecuted Israel, then and today, for Elohim has clearly stated;
“As you have done
unto Israel, so shall I do unto you.”
Obadiah verse 15.
The
prophet Yechezkel - Ezekiel spoke the following prophetic words about a
“valley of dry bones” around 587 BC,
“Then said He unto me;
‘Prophesy unto the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the
breath. Thus saith hwhy Elohim: Come from the
four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live’. So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into
them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great
host. Then He said unto me; ‘Son of man, these bones
are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say; Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are
clean cut off. Therefore prophesy, and say unto them: Thus saith the Master Elohim; Behold,
I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, O My
people; and I will bring you into Eretz Yisroel” Yechehel - Ezekiel 37: 9 to 12. (JPS).
hwhy Elohim, blessed be His Sanctified Name, had
and still has a great future for His people. Just look at the nations that have
persecuted the people of Israel. Where are they now? They
have either vanished or diminished as a nation or as a
people. Israel has stood at the grave of every empire that has ever
persecuted it, even as it did at the fall of the Nazi Empire in 1945. For Elohim, blessed be He, had promised Israel in the
Scriptures that they would never be totally “consumed,” nor would
they ever “perish,” although they would be “ablaze with
fire.”
We must remember
that today there are still many good and faithful Hebrews (Jews) who love
Elohim who is The One true Elohim, and they do so with all their heart and soul.
It is only by
understanding Elohim’s teachings found in the Torah and for that matter all
of our beloved Tanakh that we will come to understand the sheer beauty of His
treasures and His truth and believe me it is healing!
Thus if you have read this today 1. Commit yourself to serve Elohim, and
2. Let us keep His (Torah
given) blessed commandments!
But what about the “Burning Bush?”
The truth about
the burning bush also connects to Elohim’s covenant with Avraham and his
descendants, highlighting Elohim’s - ברָך
אֱלֹהִים - “Blessed be
He” - faithfulness to His promises. Just as the bush was not
consumed by the fire, the Israelites, despite the fiery trials of their
bondage, they would not be destroyed. The burning bush, therefore, is not just a
symbol of Elohim’s presence, but also a symbol of hope and resilience for the Israelites.
The question is, will you be strong and be like those wonderful Yidden
in Lublin, stand up against the wiles of the evils of this
world, be it due to the doctrinal errors, like the man-created Oral-law,
which is NOT from Elohim, but over zealous rabbis. We must hold onto the
teaching that was given to Moshe Rabeinu, which we know came direct from
Elohim, blessed be He! And even when we stand at a “burning bush,”
although it burns with fire, be assured we as the people of אֱלֹהִים hwhy - ברָכ
שְׁמוֹ
לְעוֹלָם - “Blessed be His Name forever”,
we will never be consumed for we as B’Nei Yisroel will be there at the
end!
