Re Tanakh versions:
Throughout this site I
may use any of the following three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2. “Mechon-Mamre.org”
(MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org”
(SEF), three brilliant versions, although JPS-1917 is my preferred version!
Colour coded
details of our beloved TaNaKh:
1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.
*The Ketuvim - Includes, Poetical books - Psalms, Proverbs, Job,
the Megillot, or Scrolls - Song of Solomon, Ruth,
Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, prophecy of
Daniel, and history of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles I & II.
Please Note: Some
alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’
of אֱלֹהִים - Elohim, having been
corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye
shall NOT ADD
TO THE WORD which I command
you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT,
that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

Part One..
With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.
Introduction:
In the closing of the previous chapter, Moses reached a breaking point,
questioning why אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God) had allowed such suffering to befall the Israelites after his
first audience with Pharaoh. Chapter 6 opens with אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s powerful response. This section is a foundational moment in the
Torah, where the Almighty transitions from the אֱלֹהִים - Elohim of the Patriarchs known by power and promise to the אֱלֹהִים - Elohim of Redemption, known by His personal Name and His direct intervention
in history. It is a message of transition from “hope deferred” to “action
initiated”.

Below are the verses from Exodus Chapter 6, verses 1 to 15: with
Explanations located directly below the verses.
1. “And יְהוָה - the LORD said unto Moses: ‘Now shalt
thou see what I will do to Pharaoh; for by a strong hand shall he let them go,
and by a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land’.
Explanations: Verse 1: “אֱלֹהִים - Elohim reassures Moses that Pharaoh’s stubbornness is actually the setup for a
greater display of Divine strength. The “strong hand” refers to the plagues that
will eventually compel Pharaoh not just to allow them to leave, but to drive
them out of the land.
2. And אֱלֹהִים - Elohim spoke unto Moses, and said unto him: ‘I am יְהוָה - the LORD;
3. and I
appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as אֱלֹהִים - Elohim Almighty, but by My Name יְהוָה - the LORD I made Me not known to
them’.
Explanations: Verses
2-3: A pivotal theological moment. אֱלֹהִים - Elohim explains that while He appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as El
Shaddai (God Almighty/Sustainer),
He did not make the essential nature of His Four-Letter Name (אֱלֹהִים יְהוָה - the LORD Elohim) fully manifest to them. They lived
by faith in a future promise; the current generation will see that promise
become a physical reality.
4. And I have also established My covenant with them, to give them the
5. And moreover I have heard the
groaning of the children of
Explanations: Verses 4-5: אֱלֹהִים - Elohim reaffirms the Covenant (Brit). He emphasizes
that He has “remembered” the bond. In the Torah, when אֱלֹהִים - Elohim “remembers”, it signifies that the time for active intervention has
arrived.
6. Wherefore say unto the
children of
7. and I will take you to Me for
a people, and I will be to you a אֱלֹהִים - Elohim; and ye shall know that I am יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloheychem
(God), who brought you
out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
8. And I will bring you in unto
the land, concerning which I lifted up My hand to give
it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for a heritage: I
am יְהוָה - the LORD’.
Explanations: Verses 6-8: These
verses contain the Four
Expressions of Redemption:’I
will bring you out’, ‘I will
deliver you’, ‘I will redeem you’, and ‘I
will take you’. These form the basis for the four cups of wine at the Passover Seder.
They outline a psychological and physical journey from slavery to Divine
adoption.
9. And Moses spoke so unto the
children of
Explanations: Verse 9: A poignant
look at the human condition. The Israelites cannot hear the good news because
of “shortness of spirit” (kotzer
ruach) and hard labour. It teaches us that extreme
suffering can temporarily deafen the soul to hope.
10. And יְהוָה - the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
11. ‘Go in,
speak unto Pharaoh king of
12. And Moses spoke before יְהוָה - the LORD, saying: ‘Behold, the
children of
13. And יְהוָה - the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto
Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of
Explanations: Verses 10-13: Despite the
people’s despair and Moses’ own self-doubt (claiming “uncircumcised lips”), אֱלֹהִים - Elohim issues a formal charge to both Moses and Aaron. They are now officially
commissioned as the agents of the Exodus.
14. ‘These are the heads of their
fathers’ houses: the sons of Reuben the first-born of
15. And the sons of Simeon: ‘Jemuel’, and ‘Jamin’, and ‘Ohad’, and ‘Jachin’, and ‘Zohar’,
and ‘Shaul’ the son of a Canaanitish
woman. These are the families of Simeon’”.
Explanations: Verses 14-15: The text
pivots to a genealogy. By listing the heads of the houses of Reuben and Simeon
before moving toward Levi, the Torah anchors these spiritual figures in a
concrete, historical family lineage, showing they are men of the people, not
mythical beings.

My Closing Message:
Part One reminds us that there is often a “darkest hour” before the dawn. When
Moses felt he had failed, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim revealed that the process of redemption had only just begun. The lesson
here is that our exhaustion (the “shortness of spirit”) does not stop אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s plan; rather, אֱלֹהִים - Elohim’s commitment to the Covenant remains steady even when our own faith
wavers under the weight of hardship.
