Re Tanakh versions:
Throughout this site I
may use any of the following three versions of the Tanakh: 1. “Jewish Publication Society” (JPS-1917), 2. “Mechon-Mamre.org”
(MEC), and 3. “Sefaria.org”
(SEF), three brilliant versions, although JPS-1917 is my preferred version!
Colour coded
details of our beloved TaNaKh:
1. Torah = History & Law, 2. Nevi’im = The Prophets. 3. *Ketuvim = all other Writings.

Please Note: Some
alterations or (additions) have been made relating to ‘Names’ and ‘Attributes’

corrected like it once was pre the “Masoretic Text”.

Remember the following truth from our beloved Torah!
“Ye
shall NOT ADD
TO THE WORD which I command
you, NEITHER SHALL YE DIMINISH FROM IT,
that ye may keep the commandments of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֵיכֶם - the LORD your Eloleichem, which I command you”. Davarim -
Deuteronomy 4:2. (JPS-1917).

With Rabbi, Dr. Reuven Ben Avraham-Goossens, PhD.
Foreword:
The text of Deuteronomy
30:9-14 highlights a shift toward Divine blessing, promising
prosperity for following commandments and turning toward אֱלֹהִים - Elohim (God),
with a focus on the accessibility of this spiritual path. It emphasizes that
the law is not unattainable or distant, but rather within reach “in your mouth
and in your heart” for implementation in daily life!
Introduction:
The Torah of Nearness.
Deuteronomy
Chapter 30 marks a transition from the “secret things” that belong to אֱלֹהִים - Elohim to the “revealed
things” that belong to us. After a long list of rewards and punishments, Moshe
reaches the core of his final address: the assurance that living a life of
meaning and holiness is not a distant, impossible ideal. It is a gift already
placed within our reach. These verses emphasize human
agency, the idea that אֱלֹהִים - Elohim does
not demand what we cannot perform, but rather invites us into a relationship of
“delight” and “flourishing”.

Below are the verses from Deuteronomy 30, verses 9
to 14: with Explanations located directly below the verses.
9. And
יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֶיךָ
- The LORD thy Eloheuyha will make thee over-abundant in all the work of
thy hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the
fruit of thy land, for good; for יְהוָה - the LORD will
again rejoice over thee for good, as He rejoiced over thy fathers;
10. If
thou shalt hearken to the voice of יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֶיךָ
- The LORD thy Eloheycha, to keep His commandments and His statutes which
are written in this book of the law; if thou turn unto יְהוָה
אֱלֹהֶיךָ
- The LORD thy Eloheycha with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.
Explanations: Verses 9-10: The Promise
of Divine Delight. These verses highlight a shift toward a Divine “rejoicing”
over
11. For
this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not too hard for thee,
neither is it far off.
12. It
is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say: ‘Who shall
go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we
may do it?’
13. Neither
is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say: ‘Who
shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that
we may do it?’
Explanations: Verses 11-13: The
Accessibility of Torah. Addressing the fear that commandments are
unattainable, Moses proclaims they are not "too hard" or “far away”.
The famous phrase, “It is not in heaven” (Lo Bashamayim Hi), signifies that divine wisdom is
not a secret, far-off concept requiring mystical, impossible journeys, but is
instead accessible to humanity.
14. But
the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
Explanations:
Verse 14: Nearness and Internalization. The passage concludes by emphasizing
that the Torah is “very near”. Being in the “mouth” and “heart” indicates that
the law is designed to be studied, spoken, and internalized, becoming a
natural, guiding force within the individual.

My Closing Message:
The specialness of these verses lies in their profound
optimism, framing Torah not as an unbearable burden but as an accessible path to
flourishing. They serve as a “myth of choice”, empowering us to “choose life”
and affirming that a meaningful, divine-aligned life is well within our reach.
